Cherokee County CH.A.D.D.

The Cherokee County Children and Adults with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorders is hosting a free parent meeting with guest speaker, John Cornelison, M.S., D. Dancers' Pursuit 2001 Dance Concert

Local Student Dance Company, Dancers' Pointe Performance Ensemble, will be holding its first annual Dancers' Pursuit 2001 dance concert on Saturday, February 24 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre in Cartersville.  Joining the company will be the Kempany and Company, a professional dance company consisting of Dancers' Pointe Academy instructors.  The concert will feature a variety of dance styles form ballet to hip-hop.  Tickets are $7 for adults and $5.50 for children under 12 and seniors over 55.  Group rates are available.  Tickets are available at Dancers' Pointe Academy studio and at the theatre box office one hour before performance.  For more information, call (770) 926-8767.

First Steps Volunteers Needed

Improv Workshops

Cherokee Little Theatre Players is hosting a three-week series of improvisation workshops on Saturday, February 10, 17 and 24 at 10 a.m. at the Arts Center in Canton.  The workshops will focus on improv skills including building a character and comedy theatre sports.  These workshops are appropriate for anyone 12 and over at any level of experience.  Come to one or all!  No reservation is necessary.  There is a workshop fee of $5.  For more information or directions, call (770) 704-9909. 

"Jazz on Tap" Dance Festival

The 14th annual "Jazz on Tap" Metro Atlanta Jazz and Tap Dance Festival, hosted by Jazz Dance Theatre South and Dancentre South Company of Woodstock, will be presented on

Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 17 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theatre at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta.  This year's festival will feature more than 40 companies from throughout the United States including local companies, Dancentre South, Jazz Dance Theatre South, Cherokee Ballet Theatre and Steps Dance Center.  Dance styles range from sizzling hot jazz to cool tap.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for Seniors and students under 12.  For reservations or information, call (770) 516-7229.

Pet Adoptions

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is open for adoptions every Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The Shelter also holds off-site pet adoptions every Saturday at the Haynes Pet Center in Towne Lake from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and every Sunday at PetsMart in Kennesaw from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., weather permitting.  For more information, see page 44 or call the Shelter at (770) 345-7270.

Special Olympics Volunteer Meeting

The Cherokee County Special Olympics Committee is looking for dependable, dedicated and loving people to volunteer to coach, chaperone or help with coordinating events.  The Committee will host a Volunteer meeting at Crossroads Middle and High School in Holly Springs on February 5.  The Cherokee County Special Olympics program is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for all children and adults with mental retardation.  The program is financially supported by donations from individuals, organizations, corporations and other community sources.  For more information, call (770) 517-7101.

Volley for a Cause
