TowneLaker Team

JSL Donates Nearly $30,000 to Help Build a Better Community

The TowneLaker magazine recently welcomed Susan Kyle on board as the new Associate Editor, replacing Shannon Drost who left to pursue a career in pharmaceutical sales. Susan comes to The TowneLaker with a background in Human Resource Management and extensive administrative experience.

“I always look forward to receiving the publication at my home, working on the magazine is a thrill,” said Kyle. “This job is giving me an opportunity to get out in the community and really get to know the people and businesses of Towne Lake and the surrounding area.”

Susan lives in Eagle View with her husband William, four-month-old daughter Molly and their two cats, Alley and Gus. When not working Susan can be found spending time with her family, traveling and reading.

The Junior Service League of Woodstock (JSL) is halfway through its fiscal year and has been very busy creating all kinds of excitement in the community. The JSL’s Holiday Tour of Homes was a huge success raising close to $24,000. The group recently presented Habitat for Humanity with a check for $10,000, $5,000 of which was provided by ARCO Design and Build.

The JSL also presented MUST, Inc. with a check for $2,700 for building expenses for the new Career Job Placement Center. The JSL gave $500 for the Must Food Pantry; $2,000 to Reinhardt College “A DAY,” which gives scholarships to Cherokee County students; and $400 to the Hillside Hugs program to buy materials to make blankets for children, families, and nursing homes in Cherokee County.

The JSL has impacted Cherokee County in a powerful way. The grand total of charitable contributions for the year 1999/2000 was $29,179.04. The JSL’s next big project is the Annual Towne Lake Tennis Tournament which will be held in March at Eagle Watch. Proceeds from this event and the benefactors will be announced at a later date. Brenda’s House of Flowers
Named “Small Business
of the Year”

The TowneLaker is Looking for Moms and Teachers

The TowneLaker Magazine’s “Best of the Best” Reader’s Choice Award Winner for 2000 has been named “Small Business of the Year” by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The announcement was made recently during the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and Banquet held at the Hillside United Methodist Church in Towne Lake.

Lyn & Skip Shipman, owners of Brenda’s House of Flowers, accepted the award presented by the Chamber’s Chairman of the Board, Jo Ellen Wilson. The award was based on the company’s local and national accomplishments, along with its participation involving community projects.

When asked what is the key to their success, Skip Shipman said, “We do business the old fashion way by providing our customers with great customer service, the freshest flowers delivered on time every time and a great value for their money. We, also, provide the best guarantee in the floral industry.”

“Skip and I were completely overwhelmed and humbled by being chosen as the first to receive the Chamber’s Small Business of the Year Award,” commented Lyn Shipman. “The Chamber, under Jo Ellen’s leadership this past year, should be congratulated for the extraordinary job they have done for Cherokee County.”
