has been very busy creating all kinds of excitement in the community.
The JSL’s Holiday Tour of Homes was a huge success raising close to
$24,000. The group recently presented Habitat for Humanity with a check
for $10,000, $5,000 of which was provided by ARCO Design and Build.

building expenses for the new Career Job Placement Center. The JSL gave
$500 for the Must Food Pantry; $2,000 to Reinhardt College “A DAY,”
which gives scholarships to Cherokee County students; and $400 to the
Hillside Hugs program to buy materials to make blankets for children,
families, and nursing homes in Cherokee County.
The JSL has impacted Cherokee County in a powerful way. The grand
total of charitable contributions for the year 1999/2000 was $29,179.04.

Magazine’s “Best of the Best” Reader’s Choice Award Winner for
2000 has been named “Small Business of the Year” by the Cherokee
County Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The
announcement was made recently during the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and
Banquet held at the Hillside United Methodist Church in Towne Lake.
Lyn & Skip Shipman, owners of Brenda’s House of Flowers,
accepted the award presented by the Chamber’s Chairman of the Board,
Jo Ellen Wilson. The award was based on the company’s local and
national accomplishments, along with its participation involving
community projects.
When asked what is the key to their success, Skip Shipman said, “We
do business the old fashion way by providing our customers with great
customer service, the freshest flowers delivered on time every time and
a great value for their money. We, also, provide the best guarantee in
the floral industry.”
“Skip and I were completely overwhelmed and humbled by being chosen
as the first to receive the Chamber’s Small Business of the Year
Award,” commented Lyn Shipman. “The Chamber, under Jo Ellen’s
leadership this past year, should be congratulated for the extraordinary
job they have done for Cherokee County.” |
