For
nearly 100 years, millions of boys and girls have learned to camp, sew,
cook and “do a good deed” through scouting. The Girl Scouts of the
United States of America offers program for girls in Kindergarten
through high school and the Boys Scouts of America offers programs for
boys from first grade through high school, and even into adult hood; and
all focus on the promises made by the scouts: to do their best, to honor
God and their country and to help other people. Studies have shown that
scouts are more likely to assume leadership roles, put the needs of
others before themselves and to value education and the environment.
When asked what scouting means to them, Towne Lake area scouts had a
bevy of responses:
Jordan Posway; Tiger
Cub Pack 999, Den 2 — “It is fun to be a Tiger Cub!”
Carey Groom,
Boy Scout Pack 994 — “Scouting is a good way to learn how to be a
man and to camp outdoors.”
Alysa LaRicci,
Girl Scout Troop 5801— “Being with your friends, having fun,
learning NEW things and loving each other — This is what scouting
means to me!”
Ryan Mead
Cub Scout Pack 999 — “Being loyal, a good helper and a good scout.”
Katie Nipp,
Brownie Troop 20270 — “To have fun and help other people!”
Brian Hess
Venture Crew 994 — “Scouting is a great way to have fun with friends
while we camp and hike. Scouting also teaches a lot about how to live
our lives and how to treat other people.”
