I got lost once.  Mom opened the door and I took off.  It was pretty cool for a little while -- I met a lot of friendly people, and got to play with some pretty fun animals.  Unfortunately, there were some dogs that didn't like me -- they were pretty scary!

Mom went nuts trying to find me.

She called my name and walked all around the neighborhood looking for me.  She was really worried, and pretty angry.  Finally our neighbor drove up to the playground and found me.  I was playing with some people and a couple of the friendly dogs.  The neighbor put me in her car and took me home.  Boy, was Mom happy to see me -- but I still got a "time out!"

I was lucky.  Our wonderful neighbor found me before I got too far away.  Some other pets aren't so lucky.  They get lost and can't find their way home.  Some end up being found by nice people who work hard to locate their owners.  If the pet has tags, it's pretty easy, but many times the pets either don't have tags, or have broken loose from their collar and the tags are lost too!

It's very important to ask Mom or Dad to write their phone number with a permanent marker on a nylon collar or to make certain that your tags are on a collar other than the one they hook a leash to.  That way, even if you break loose you'll have a much better chance of getting back home.  Of course getting "the chip" from your veterinarian is always a big help.

There's hope for those lost pets, though!  The nice folks at CENTURY 21 Advantage have set up a
Lost & Found Pet Hotline for just this occasion.  So, if you've lost or found a pet, call the Lost & Found Pet Hotline at (770) 517-8210 ext. 567 and leave a description of the animal with your name and phone number.  The folks at CENTURY 21 Advantage will do their best to match the lost pets with the found pets, and if there's no match, they are printed in The TowneLaker.

You might also want to notify other publications and of course, the Animal Shelter and local veterinarians.
