Summer Camps for Kids

CHEROKEE OUTDOOR YMCA DAY CAMP


Ages: Rising 1st through 10th graders
Dates: May 29 through August 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pre-  and post-camp hours are available
Location: Outdoor YMCA on Lake Allatoona
Cost: $110 -- $ 200 per week, scholarships available

There are
more than 30 camps to choose from including:

Beach, Bugs and Berries -- where campers in first and second grades will meet all the creatures and plants that they love at the camp, and explore the outdoors and learn respect for the environment.

High Tech'n -- where campers in first through fourth grades will learn where technology and camp meet.  Campers will spend the week making an audio cassette of camp songs, then a week with Computer Tots doing computer exploration.

Craft Crazy -- where children in third through sixth grades will work daily in the arts on both large and small projects using more advanced materials.

Outdoor Adventurer -- where children in fifth and sixth grades will build a fort, canoe and use a bow and arrow.  Campers will learn the different types of campfires and create a work of art using all natural materials.

Paddle. Pole and Roll -- where campers in fifth through tenth grade will learn the proper strokes, find out how to steer a kayak, master the "wet exit" and learn kayak safety.

CHEROKEE OUTDOOR YMCA HALF-PINT CAMP


Ages: Ages 3 -- 5.
Dates: May 29 through August 10, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Outdoor YMCA on Lake Allatoona
Cost: $65 per week, scholarships available

Children will swim, do arts and crafts, play games and learn about nature in this camp just for children ages three to five.

SUMMER BIBLE CAMPS AT HILLSIDE UMC


Truth Trackers
Ages: Rising Pre K 4's -- 5th graders.
Dates: Monday through Thursday in July,  9 a.m. -- 1 p.m.
July 9 -- 12  The F.R.O.G.S. Club
July 16 -- 19  Truth Trackers
July 23 -- 26  Son Creek Junction
July 30 -- Aug. 2 Animal Crackers
Cost: $70 per child, per week
Location: Hillside United Methodist Church

Registration is on Wednesdays from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Hillside in the Nursery office.  Scholarships are available.  Teaching and assistant positions are available with competitive salary.  Reduced tuition is available for camp staff children.  For more information, call (770) 924-4777, extension 61.

Summertime often means camp-time for kids of all ages.  Whether it's splashing in the lake, horse-back riding through the woods or creating masterpieces in an art studio -- the Towne Lake area has tons of summer activities.  Here are a few of the camps offered in the Towne Lake area.

CHEROKEE RECREATION AND PARKS AUTHORITY


CRPA All-Sport Camp
Ages:  Ages 6 -- 8
Dates: June 25 -- 29, 9 a.m. -- 4 p.m.
Cost: $110
Location: Hobgood Park

The All Sport camp allows children to experience a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, softball, flag football, tennis, volleyball and swimming.  Early drop off and pick up is available at the Recreation Center 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. for extra $20 charge.

Outdoor Expeditions Camp
Ages: Ages 7 -- 12
Dates: June 11 -- 15, 7 a.m. -- 6 p.m.
Cost: $110

This camp is designed for participants to experience adventures and instill a better appreciation of nature.  Campers will canoe, kayak, hike, swim, fish and more.

TWIRL TIME BATON AND DANCE CAMP


Ages:  Grades K -- 2 from 9 a.m. -- 1 p.m.
Grades 3 -- 12 from 9 a.m. -- 5 p.m.
Dates: June 12 -- 15
Location:  Woodstock High School
Cost: Grades K -- 2, costs $60
  Grades 3 -- 12, costs $95

TWIRL TIME DANCE TEAM AND POM POM CAMP


Ages: Grades 1 -- 4 from 4 -- 6 p.m.

ART CAMP 2001

This is the fifth annual Art Camp held by the Arts Alliance of Georgia in partnership with the Cherokee County Board of Education.  The camp will focus on hands-on learning of the visual arts.
