I recently returned
home from a vacation aboard a cruise ship, and as comforting as it was
to turn off of I-575 into Towne Lake after an overnight flight, there
are some things from the trip that I'd love to have brought home!
I got a little spoiled by having someone
cook and clean for me each day. It sure would be nice to have brought
Javier, my cabin steward, home with me so he could turn down my bed each
night and leave a little mint on the pillow. I'd also like to keep the
busboy, who diligently removed plates from in front of me as they were
emptied of food and refilled my drink before I even asked.
It's not just the services I'd like to have
brought home, though. I'd like my own personal elevator in my house. Not
because I'm lazy, (although my dusty curio might argue otherwise). It's
just that I really like that feeling of satisfaction and superiority that
I get when I choose to take the stairs rather than the elevator!
Aside from the obvious services that I'd
like to have at my disposal, I began to think about the other experiences
I had on the ship and how those could make life in Towne Lake a little
better. It was only then that I realized how much we really have here.
On the ship I enjoyed sitting with different
couples at meals and getting to know them. Sort of the way we all end
up talking and table-hopping at Johnny's or Souper Grill.
I also really enjoyed the group activities
on the ship - the Bingo, the Scavenger Hunt, the game shows... I suppose
that translates here on land to softball, football and trivia at Bogey's
(Although I think that the Towne Lake Bingo Parlor - offering small prizes
to winners, not cash, of course - could become the place to see and be
seen).
The entertainment on the ship was tremendous!
We were treated to Broadway-style shows, music around every corner and
juggling comedians. Here at home we can see a professional "Broadway-style"
show at the Canton Theatre, catch Mariachi Night at El Ranchero and the
great tunes at La Paz on Thursdays.
The public address system was great. It was
so easy to know what activities were available, and where to catch them
- sort of like The TowneLaker magazine!
Okay, so none of these are "all-inclusive"
like the cruise line - but then again, it doesn't cost nearly $200 a day
per person to live in Towne Lake!
