Parents across the
Towne Lake area are breathing a sigh of relief as they slowly count the
last few days before school begins. The fun-in-the-sun pace of summer
has rapidly become the hectic gotta-get-ready-for-school shop-a-thon.
I've uncovered a few Web sites to help make the last few weeks of summer
a little less frantic!
http://www.cherokee.k12.ga.us/ - Cherokee
County School System official Web site. Here you can check out the school
system's calendar, read the "Principal's Handbook," see the results of
the School Uniform Survey or link to individual school Web sites.
www.accessatlanta.com/homes/schools/
- Want to see how our schools stack up against other metro-area schools,
check out this site, which uses information from the 1999 - 2000 Georgia
Public Education Report Card, produced by the Georgia Department of Education.
www.containerstore.com - The Container
Store Web site is easy to navigate with a logical search tool. They feature
a colorful variety of lap top packs and backpacks including the Healthy
Back®
pack as well as rolling backpacks and the
usual JanSport® line.
The Container Store site also has a "Dorm Room Basics" featuring trunks,
calendars, laundry bags, over-the-door hooks and media storage ideas.
www.Bigwords.com - Find out the best
place to buy or sell your textbooks through Bigwords.com. The site is
easy to navigate, allowing you to lookup books by the Title, Author or
International Standard Book Number (ISBN). After finding the book you're
trying to buy or sell, the site shows you a breakdown of various retailers
and the prices for buying or selling the book at each retailer.
www.levenger.com - This is the site
for truly distinguished school supplies.
www.georgia-navigator.com - If you
have to commute to school outside of the Towne Lake area, check out the
Department of Transportation Navigator Web site. This site offers DOT
updates on road work as well as a map showing the actual speeds of vehicles
traveling on major highways.
Fashion is always a
concern - not just at the start of the school year. Here are a bunch of
sites to help you look your best as you head back to school.
www.maxpages.com/dolls - This site
features the on-line equivalent of paper dolls. It allows you to combine
cartoon fashion pieces to create the looks you love - for both boys and
girls!
Not sure what's hot this year? Try the online
fashion mags: www.seventeen.com, www.details.com, www.vogue.com,
www.modemag.com. Or check out these designer's sites: www.versace.com
(this one has great audio and streaming video), www.tommy.com,
www.levis.com, www.guess.com, www.donnakaran.com
(Donna Karan and Guess include on-line shopping).
Now that you know what you want - here's
where you can get it. Here are several on-line retailers. If I haven't
listed your favorite, just hit Google.com and search for it. www.gap.com,
www.oldnavy.com, www.bananarepublic.com, www.abercrombieandfitch.com,
www.jcpenny.com, www.target.com, www.bluelight.com
(Kmart).
