Possibly the most
exciting city in the universe, New York City is rivaled only by London
or Hong Kong. It has something for everyone —- restaurants, museums,
history, nightlife. You name it - New York City has it!
New York City is comprised of five boroughs
—- Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island. Each of
these boroughs offers a unique and diverse cultural experience. Many people
are unaware this was our nation's temporary capital in 1785 and where
George Washington assumed the presidency in 1789. The city's harbor opened
the door to shipping, commerce, immigration, opportunity, and most of
all excitement. This city is a far cry from the 1700s. You can expect
three things from New York - Traffic, People and a lot of Fun! If you
love to people watch, then you'll feel right at home. New Yorkers tend
to get a bum rap on friendliness — though many are from elsewhere,
much like Atlanta.
Many people do not view New York as a family
destination. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Take a carousel
ride in Central Park. Visit the Bronx Zoo or ice skate at Rockefeller
Center (October through May). Visit the Children's Museum of Manhattan
and walk through a simulated ear. Enjoy a ride on the Circle Line Ferry
around the island of Manhattan. Take a ferry from Battery Park over to
the Statue of Liberty - but go early if you wish to climb the staircase.
For those who have older children, take them to a taping of Carson Dailey's
Total Request Live at MTV Studios or the play Seussical. If nothing else,
a must see is the Museum of Natural History and a trip to F.A.O. Schwartz.
Be it the young or the young at heart, New
York is MAGICAL! There are so many "must sees" a weekend just won't do,
nor will a budget. For vacationers and business travelers alike, I highly
recommend the Radisson Hotel East Side. It has just
undergone a multi-million dollar

refurbishment
and offers super saver rates
as well as weekend promotions.
Vacation travelers from grandparents to girls
weekends to genealogy buffs can make New York City an annual event. Plan
a Thanksgiving weekend and view the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Go
see the holiday lights just after Thanksgiving and make sure you have
tickets to the Rockette's Christmas Show. Take the kids for Spring Break;
visit for St. Patrick's Day. There are more options than one can imagine.
To the business traveler - TAKE ADVANTAGE
OF THE SITUATION!!!! Instead of being holed up in a hotel room reading
e-mails, after your meeting, get out and "smell the concrete!" as they
say in N.Y., Forgetta 'Bout It!" Take in a play! Tickets are typically
½ price day of show. Go see Aida at the Palace Theatre, or Mamma
Mia (based on the music of Abba) at the Winter Garden Theatre. If
you're really looking for a boost, see one of my favorites - 42nd Street
at the Ford Center.
When you've finished the day's events, then
it's time to Eat! Eat! Eat! From Little Italy to Chinatown to the Carnegie
Deli to the Rainbow room. There is something to tantalize anyone's taste
buds. If nothing else just get a hot dog from one of the street vendors.
Talking about New York City is like opening
Pandora's Box. Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Grand Central
Station, Broadway, Ellis Island, Brooklyn Bridge, Bloomingdale's, Saks,
Barney's, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park, Time Square, Greenwich
Village, Harlem, SoHo, the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Met, N.Y. Stock
Exchange, The Today Show (make sure you say hi to Lenny), Regis, Good
Morning America, Letterman and of course, Rosie. Whew! That's just to
name a few. Best advice for New York - Plan! Plan! Plan!
