GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT
CHEROKEE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARIES

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

TOWNE LAKE'S GUIDE TO HAVING FUN!
by Susan Kyle

It's time again to "tee-up" for the Cherokee County Public Libraries. The Cherokee Bank Golf Classic is being held on Wednesday, September 5 at the Towne Lake Hills Golf Course in Towne Lake. Proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing books and library materials for all of the Cherokee County Public Libraries.

The tournament format is a Foursome Scramble. The entry fee of $100 per player or $400 for a foursome includes greens fees, practice range, golf cart, lunch, post-tournament refreshments, and contests including putting, closest to the pin, longest drive and club throwing contests.

Sponsorships are available and this event is one of the major Library fundraisers of the year. Tournament brochures and informational flyers are available at any of the six Libraries in Cherokee County. For more information, call (770) 479-3090, ext. 22.

If you are interested in the arts, there will be plenty to keep you occupied this month.

The Cherokee County Arts Council (CCAC) will present "Centering on Clay @ the Arts Center," a showcase of two and three-dimensional clay and pottery from local artists. This exhibition will open September 13 with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, call (770) 704-6244 or visit www.cherokeearts.org.

If unusual folk art is more your style, you may want to check out the art exhibit at "Matilda's Cottage" in Alpharetta. The works displayed are from two different artists and are divided between two houses. The Blue House features art by Cat Tesla and The Hen House features Mary Zeman. This exhibition is free. For more information, call (770) 754-7831.

Need a way to keep your teenagers busy for a whole day? Well someone came up with this great idea of holding a festival dedicated to teenagers only. Cruizers Teen Town Festival will be held at Hobgood Park on September 29. There will be a battle of local teenage bands; the winner will receive a four-song EP demo. There will also be a $5 raffle ticket drawing for a '94 Acura Integra, games, sports demonstrations, a dating game and a talent show. Food and merchandise vendors will be present and admission is free.

Here is your last chance to take advantage of the outside summer concerts offered in Woodstock. The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority and The City of Woodstock will hold two free concerts at the Woodstock City Park gazebo in September. On Friday, September 7 they will feature the Atlanta Rhythm Section at 7 p.m. The last Brown Bag Concert of the summer will be held September 28 at 11:30 a.m. The headliner for this concert has not yet been determined.

September means the return of the annual Riverfest. This is one of Cherokee County's biggest arts and craft festivals, where you can eat plenty of food and shop for unique trinkets.

The festival is held at Boling Park in Canton, September 29 - 31. The festival will feature more than 200 artists and craftspersons exhibiting and displaying their creations from soap making to basket weaving. There will be a children's area with games, rides, a petting zoo and a steam locomotive. Entertainment, such as martial arts demonstrations and dance routines, will be available throughout the weekend. Make sure you get there early because parking space is limited. Admission is a $5 donation for adults 12 and up; children under 12 are free. All proceeds will assist needy children in Cherokee County. For more information, call (770) 704-5991.
