TOWNE LAKE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

FROM THE

TOWNE LAKE
BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

The Towne Lake Business Association ("TLBA") was created to promote and help develop quality businesses to satisfy all of your service, retail and business needs . all within our community . without ever leaving the Towne Lake area. Many local businesses in the Towne Lake area are owned and operated by entrepreneurs who took the courageous step to work for themselves in a business they loved. They started with a passion to be the best and hopefully earn enough money to raise and support their family. In this month's column, I want to focus on these independent businesses.

There are some staggering statistics and challenges for the small business owner. The failure rate far exceeds the success rate for first year businesses. As an example, only two out of of ten independent restaurants will see their second year! Many businesses simply run out of time and money before they are able to turn the corner toward stable profitability.

Small business owners are also challenged in trying to be experts in all facets of their businesses. They must maintain a positive bottom line while dealing with issues ranging from from effective marketing strategies to employee issues to customer complaints. Did you know that when most people have an enjoyable experience with a business, they will tell one other person. But if they have a bad encounter, they will tell about nine people!

In today's business world, everybody can use a little help; you can't do it alone and expect great results! The TLBA offers business owners an opportunity to get together for about an hour each month for the Lunch 'n' Learn workshops. These workshops are designed with your needs in mind to help brainstorm, solve and work through the tough challenges you may otherwise face alone. Chances are one of us has already experienced the similar problem and can give you advice.

At our August Lunch 'n' Learn workshop, sales promotions and cross marketing were discussed. The attending members and guests were exposed to and discussed many ideas to help develop cost effective ways of expanding our businesses. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18.

I encourage businesses in our community to join with us in our efforts to strengthen the Towne Lake area business community. Just call us at (770) 517-8210 ext 550 or come to one of our workshops. Remember "Keeping Towne Lake Dollar$ in Towne Lake" helps support and strengthen our community. So stop by and see any of us . just look for the green "Proud Member of Towne Lake Business Association" decal.

 Wayne Kosbe, President

NOTE: The Business Spotlight highlights one TLBA member each month with information showcasing their business.

("buildAccess") is a local Website Development company now in its second year of operation with the goal of assisting Towne Lake area businesses in providing online services and information to their target audiences. buildAccess has quickly established a solid reputation based on customer service and community focus. The company recently launched the online business directory, www.aboutowne.com, which provides categorized listings of Towne Lake area businesses completely free of charge to local consumers. The site features more than 240 businesses, printable coupons, and banner ad style advertisements. Menus from more than 25 local restaurants are currently in production and will be added to the site's offerings very shortly.

Gary Moore, the President and founder, is an active member of the Towne Lake Business Association. As the TLBA's Vice President of Operations, Gary is responsible for group's monthly Lunch 'n' Learn workshops. TLBA's website, www.tlba.org, was developed by buildAccess.
