Twelve year old Erin
Murphy Peters of Woodstock suffers from a rare, progressive genetic disorder
known as San Filippo Syndrome which is one of several MPS or ML disorders
affecting thousands of children in the United States. To raise awareness
and funds for treatment and research, Erin's parents are organizing the
second annual "Run For Erin," an MPS Society Walk/Run, on Saturday,
October 13. The run begins at 8:30 a.m. at Woodstock High School. Proceeds
will benefit the National MPS Society.
"Last year's event drew 450 participants
and raised more than $30,000," said Stacy Murphy Peters, run coordinator.
"Our goal this year is to raise $50,000, all of which will go directly
to research for MPS III, Erin's condition," added Murphy Peters.
"We invite families, community groups, as well as all runners and walkers
to come out and join us. Erin will be there too," said Murphy Peters.
Erin is representing thousands of children in need of treatment and research
into these disabling, life threatening disorders.
For more information about the second annual
"Run for Erin" or to make a contribution or donate goods or services,
please contact Stacy Murphy Peters at (770) 928-0853.

Congratulations to
three Northside Pediatrics physicians on winning the prestigious "Top
Docs in Atlanta" award from Atlanta Magazine.
Drs. Michael Levine, Jonathan Winner and
Ruth Brown all were named in the August edition of Atlanta Magazine, which
profiled the best physicians in Atlanta, as selected by their peers. The
article listed only eight pediatricians for the metro Atlanta area.

The Summer Lunch Program
has concluded and the images of hundreds of smiling faces and the warm
hugs will long be remembered.
This summer the numbers were staggering -
more than 44,000 lunches in Cobb county and 23,000 in Cherokee County.
Approximately 1,500 children every day received lunches.
The program was possible because of the very
generous support of many businesses, churches and individuals in the community
who provided the sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
Especially appreciated are the hands that
made the sandwiches and put the lunches together everyday for delivery
to the many children who received them with much joy and gratitude.

The Junior Service
League of Woodstock and Northside Hospital —- Cherokee invite you
to the Fifth Annual Holiday Tour of Homes. The tour will take place on
Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Inspiring
decorations, soft twinkling lights, and sweet aromas fill the air as local
decorators transform four Towne Lake homes with the "Magic of Christmas."
The Messerly's and Touch of Class will join
together to begin our tour in Eagle Watch. Towne Lake's own Desidarios
will bring Christmas joy to the Alred home in Towne Lake Hills North.
Around the bend also in North, Madison Reed will transform the Melnikoff's
home into a winter wonderland. Local decorator's Ann Marie Whitfield and
Vanessa Hooper will deck the halls of the Thompson's Towne Lake Hills
East home.
Tickets for the tour are $10, and can be
purchased through JSL members, Decorators, Sponsors, Towne Lake Flowers
& Gifts, and The Wild Honeysuckle. Tickets can also be purchased the
day of the event at any tour home.
Your continued support of this annual event
enables the Junior Service League to bring the "Magic of Christmas" every
day of the year into the lives of the children of Cherokee County.

Seven year old Kristan
Schiele of Towne Lake got a hair cut recently by Julianna Carter of Salon
Allure & Spa. But her tresses didn't end up on the beauty shop floor
or in the trash can. Instead, Kristan's hair will likely become the envy
of some other little girl's classmates.
Her hair is being donated to an organization
called Locks of Love that will make it into a wig for a child who is bald.
Locks of Love is a Palm Springs based national charity that takes donated
human hair — tied into ponytails or braided — and makes it
into special hairpieces for financially disadvantaged children who have
lost their hair because of medical conditions. Usually the children are
little girls who want long hair. This is why the organization encourages
people to send in hair that's a foot or more in length. It requires about
four months, and a dozen ponytails to make a single wig.
Kristan decided to give her hair to the cause.
Kristan is in Mrs. Crews' second grade class at Bascomb Elementary and
lives in Towne Lake Hills West with her very proud parents Wendy and Patrick
and her two brothers Jonathan and Nathan.
