First and foremost,
members of the Towne Lake Business Association ("TLBA") send our prayers
and thoughts to the victims and their families of the tragedies of September
11, 2001. We are proud to see the unity within our community to rally
behind the recovery effort. Many businesses took it upon themselves to
show their commitment to America by passing out American flags, collecting
money for relief efforts, etc.
America's leaders have asked us to play our
part and keep our great economy moving by spending and investing in American
companies to show our support that terrorism cannot stop America. Here
in Towne Lake, our "Keeping Towne Lake Dollars in Towne Lake" campaign
strengthens both our businesses and community by providing tax dollars
for our schools, services, and infrastructure.
It has been inspiring to see the unity of
our business community coming together. More and more businesses are joining
the TLBA to not only improve their businesses through our workshops, but
also to become a part of the voice and direction of our business community.
We welcome our new members and encourage other business owners to become
members as well. Our political influence is growing and our voice is beginning
to be heard by our elected officials.
At our last Lunch 'N' Learn Workshop, the
TLBA unanimously voted to support the proposed annexation of certain commercial
areas of Towne Lake into the city of Woodstock. We believe that this annexation
is very important for the health of many businesses in Towne Lake. Obviously,
restaurants will benefit most directly, and by creating stronger restaurants,
other Towne Lake area businesses should also benefit. We have seen the
closing of too many Towne Lake area restaurants over the last several
years, which could have been avoided if they had an equal opportunity
to compete with other establishements located just down the road in the
city of Woodstock.
A statement of our support for this annexation
was delivered to the Woodstock City Council prior to their vote on this
issue at their next meeting which was held on Tuesday, September 25. We
will provide an update on this meeting in our next month's column.
I encourage businesses in our community to
join with us in our efforts to strengthen the Towne Lake area business
community. As always, we thank you for your support and comments. You
can reach us by visiting our website at www.tlba.org, calling us at (770)
517-8210, ext. 550 or by coming to one of our workshops. May God Bless
America!
