 Fencing Fun

Are you interested in something new and exciting? Then you need to come to the Recreation Center on Monday nights in April from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for fencing instruction. The program will begin with a history of the sport followed by several demonstrations. Each participant will learn the basics of competitive fencing, including equipment, technique and most importantly safety. Each class will consist of a warm-up, stretching, footwork, fencing drills and more. All equipment will be provided. The cost is $85 for ages 11 and up. Beginner Dog Obedience

If your four legged friend has not had training before, this six week program is a must. It will take place on Thursdays in April from 7 to 8 p.m. The purpose of this course is to get your dog under control and responding to your commands. By the end of the course, your dog will have learned to walk nicely at your side (heel), sit, lie down, stay and come to you when called. Also added to the training will be teaching the dogs a trick or two. The cost is $130. For more information, call (770) 591-2498.

 Silver Roamers Club

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites and having a great time, then why not join the Silver Roamers Club! The Club meets once a month to discuss upcoming trips and to visit with each other. Benefits of membership include discounts on all trips and chances to win prizes by accumulating miles in the Roamer Mileage Club. Membership is open to adults 55 and older and costs $20 per year. Join the Silver Roamers for a trip to Tallulah Falls on Tuesday, April 9. Visit the Tallulah Gorge State Park. This park has one of the most spectacular gorges in the eastern United States. Afterwards enjoy lunch at Isabelle's. This trip will require walking. The cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members, this cost is for transportation only. Bring money for lunch. The departure time from the Recreation Center will be 9:30 a.m., and 9:50 a.m. from the Senior Center.

On Monday, April 15, join the Silver Roamers for a shopping trip to the Commerce Outlets

On Monday, April 29 enjoy a 26 mile round trip through historic Murphy Junction along the Toccoa River. This railroad was built over 100 years ago, and it is the only mainline railroad excursion service based in Georgia. Each trip begins at the depot in Blue Ridge and includes a stop in McCaysville that permits passengers to disembark and stretch their legs while exploring downtown. The train ride is approximately 3 hours. Cost is $28 for members and $31 for non-members. Please bring a sack lunch because the ride starts at 11 a.m. and there will not be a lunch stop. Cost includes transportation and railway trip.

Senior Aerobics Program

The CRPA offers a fitness program specifically designed for Seniors on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. For more information, call Betsy Allgood at (770) 924-7768.

Ladies Only Handgun Class

Firearms instructor, Steve Scruggs, will be at the Recreation Center on Tuesday, April 16, to teach ladies how to become more proficient with a handgun. Come learn how to defend yourself in a criminal attack, sharpen your shooting skills, and load and unload a gun safely. Mr. Scruggs will also teach proper use, care and storage of a handgun and how to get over the fear of owning and possibly using a handgun. For more information, call Neely Hand at (770) 924-7768.

 Recreation Center

The Recreation Center is located at the South Annex at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Center is closed Sundays. The Center offers a variety of programs for residents and has several rooms available for rent including the Aerobics Room, Community Room, Gymnasium, Stage, Warming Kitchen and Pavilion.
