Woodstock High School
Choral Program recently took four choirs to participate in the Georgia
Music Educator's Association District 9 Choral Festival. The event took
place on February 28 at Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia, Georgia.
All four choirs received superior ratings in performance, as well as in
sight reading. The director is Scott L. Martin of Woodstock. WHS would
like to invite everyone to their Choral Spring Concert on May 9, at 7
p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free.

The Etowah High School
Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps' (AFJROTC) drill team
won second place in the Georgia State Drill Air Force Association AFJROTC
Championship Drill Competition on Saturday, March 23, 2002. Approximately
25 teams and 800 cadets from throughout Georgia competed all day in a
fierce battle to determine who was the best in the state. Members of the
Air Force Reserve closely judged the cadets in various categories of drill
and ceremonies including uniform inspection, unarmed regulation drill,
color guard, armed regulation and several others. In addition, a separate
category called individual regulation drill (knock out) tested the individual
drill skills of each cadet.
Etowah has never placed higher than third
in any category until this competition. The "Strike Eagles" were lead
this year by Cadet Major Brian Newman, a third-year cadet destined to
be a future leader in the Corps. Cadet Major Matthew Staso, another sterling
performer, earned fifth place in individual regulation drill.

Completes Math-A-Thon
Woodstock Middle School
recently completed a Math-A-Thon to help raise funds for St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital. Students obtained sponsors for the number of math problems
completed in a special workbook in this education-based fundraiser. Six
Flags, who helped sponsor this program, provided free passes to students
who raised $35 or more. Students who participated in the program learned
to do more than just math problems; they also learned the importance of
helping children who are less fortunate — children with one of the
200 forms of cancer and other catastrophic diseases. "We are very proud
of our students for working so hard on the Math-A-Thon," said Ms. Shirley
Bryant, volunteer coordinator. "With their help, St. Jude Hospital will
be able to create new treatments that may one day lead to a cure for many
forms of cancer that will benefit the children of our state, our country,
and around the world. I also want to extend our thanks to the Woodstock
community for supporting our students. It takes all of us to make a difference
in the lives of children with cancer, and we can all feel proud of our
response," Ms. Bryant continued.

Brownie Troop 1785 celebrated 90 years of
Girl Scouting in March by accumulating 90 bags of washing detergent to
donate to Must Ministries. March 12 marked the 90th anniversary of Girl
Scouting in the United States, and this troop decided to participate in
a project that represented that number. The troop leader is Lisa Morton;
the assistant leaders are Trish Skalak and Ann Carroll. All the girls
in Troop 1785 attend Bascomb Elementary.
