Basics of Personal Protection

A course on the Basics of Personal Protection, will be held on Tuesday, May 21, from 6 — 8 p.m. at the Recreation Center. The instructor for this course is veteran Firearms Instructor, Steve Scruggs. The course will include, but not be limited to: rules of safe handling of guns; guidelines for selecting handguns; and guidelines for safe loading, unloading, and firing a gun. Scruggs will also discuss procedures for the care and storage of firearms, fundamentals of marksmanship, maintaining your shooting skills, and avoiding or controlling criminal attacks. Highlights of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the purchase, ownership, possession and transportation of handguns will also be discussed. Creative Memories
Scrapbook Class

The Recreation Center will have nearly four hours of scrapbooking time on May 9 and May 23, from 5 — 8:45 p.m. A daytime class will be held on May 13, from 9 a.m. — 2 p.m. These classes will be a casual time with lots of table room to spread out! There will also be a crop talk, show and tell, and rewards to those who complete the most pages and those who are the most creative. The class instructor, Ruth Boyd, will show you how to make your albums beautiful and creative. Tools will be available, and the cost of the class is $5. Canoeing Trip Down the Etowah River

A canoeing trip down the Etowah River is planned for Sunday, May 5, at 1 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a picnic lunch or a snack for yourself and your family. Also, everyone is asked to bring a trash bag. Life jackets are provided for all ages; there are weight limits. Space is limited, so early registration is required. to visit with each other. Benefits of membership include discounts on all trips and chances to win prizes by accumulating miles in the Roamer Mileage Club. Membership is open to adults 55 and older and costs $20 per year. For information, call Lindsay Hunter at (770) 924-7768.

Join the Silver Roamers for a trip to the Fox Theater to see the Broadway Play, Saturday Night Fever, on Saturday, May 11. This play, based on the phenomenal 1977 movie that promoted a cultural revolution and became the largest selling soundtrack in history, is about the coming of age tale of a young man, Tony Manero, who learns the value of life in 1977 Brooklyn. The cost includes admission and transportation and is $50 for members and $53 for non-members. Departure from the Recreation Center is scheduled for 10:30 and 10:50 a.m. from the Senior Center.

A guided tour of Bulloch Hall in Roswell is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 for the Silver Roamers. The tour will include a drive by of other Antebellum homes in the area, and a tour of historic downtown Alpharetta and the newer business parks in the area. The cost of this tour, which includes transportation and the tour guide, is $20 for members and $23 for non-members. Everyone is asked to bring money for lunch and admission to Bulloch Hall (admission is $5). Departure from the Recreation Center will be at 8:30 a.m. and from the Senior Center at 8:50 a.m.

Senior Aerobics Program

The CRPA offers a fitness program specifically designed for Seniors on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. For more information, call Betsy Allgood at (770) 924-7768.

Recreation Center

The Recreation Center is located at the South Annex at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Center is closed Sundays. The Center offers a variety of programs for residents and has several rooms available for rent including the Aerobics Room, Community Room, Gymnasium, Stage, Warming Kitchen and Pavilion.
