May 12 is Mother's Day! Let your Mom sleep late! Make your own breakfast and do the dishes. Clean your room — without being asked. Don't ask, "What's for dinner?" Instead set the table and help your Dad with the cooking. Feed the dog or clean the bird cage. Tell your Mom you love her. Remember, the more things that you do for your Mom, the more time she has to spend with you. And that's the gift that Moms love most of all. For another gift idea, follow the instructions below and make your Mom a beautiful bunch of flowers.

Donald Kyle is the Children's Editor for The TowneLaker. He is in Mrs. Chester's second grade class at Bascomb Elementary. Donald is also the son of Gina Carr and Don Kyle.

TISSUE PAPER CARNATIONS

What You Need:
- tissue paper squares
- twist ties

What You Do:
1. Take about 5 to 6 pieces of tissue paper squares, depending on the thickness of your desired depth of the flower.

2. Stack all sheets together one on top of the other.

3. Begin folding your paper back and forth like an accordion or a fan.

4. When complete, secure in the middle with a rubber band or twist tie.

5. Now it's time to peel up each sheet one at a time. Work from side to side, left to right.

6. Bring all sheets to the middle until your done.

If you want the flowers smaller, cut the sheets down by length.

To make different shapes, clip off the tips — only a trim (triangle, points, wavy, square, etc.).
