The TowneLaker Magazine
announces the 2002 Father of the Year, Scott Collins. Scott was nominated
by his 9 year-old daughter, Mim (nick name for Miriam), whose essay (below)
touched the hearts of the entire staff and the hearts of our Community
Advisory Board, who selected our winner.
I have the most wonderful dad in the world.
My dad is special because he protects our town and my family. He is a
deputy sheriff for Cherokee County. He comes to my school to read to us
and talk about his job at Career Day. That makes me feel proud. My dad
is the most special dad because he gets up at night when I am scared or
sick and takes care of me. He brushes out all my tangles in my hair after
my bath and it doesn't even hurt. He wrestles and tickles me to make me
laugh and my sister and I can ride him like a pony. My dad loves my mom
very much and he makes her feel special just like us. My dad has taught
me how to be polite and how to treat others with respect. He says good
manners are very important. He also has taught me to love animals and
how to take care of them. My dad is the greatest and I will love him forever.
- Mim Collins, 9
