Around Towne

by Susan Kyle

 What's New

Remember the issue with the property on Towne Lake Hills South Drive where the developers wanted to create an amusement park? Well you'll be happy to hear that they listened to the "voice of the people" and now are asking to have the property rezoned to build one 48 unit condominium. The developers are asking that two existing properties be combined to accommodate the condominium. Discussions have already taken place with the Towne Lake Hills South homeowners association and they approve of the idea. This will be a gated community with the units having underground parking. The plans also call for a three-story building, 16 units per floor with interior halls. The zoning hearing will be July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County planning and zoning office in Canton.

Does your child wear a uniform to school? If so, you no doubt have been in the position of searching high and low for that "correct" uniform. Well you now have a store that specializes in school uniforms, Academic Fashions. Debbie Breininger, owner, was in that same position when her children needed uniforms, and now she is saving you the head and heartache of searching. Currently, Academic Fashions specializes in specific school-required uniforms for Cherokee Christian School, Furtah Preparatory School (opening this fall on Highway 92), Shiloh Hills Christian School, and North Cobb Christian School (which is going to uniforms this coming year). The store is open to the public and anyone can purchase the clothing, i.e., khaki pants, plaid skirts, and white shirts. They also carry all the accessories for the uniforms — hair bows, socks, belts, and outerwear. Academic Fashions is located in the Towne Place Center (Towne Lake Parkway, east of I-575).

Are you ready to downsize your living space to accommodate your active lifestyle? Well perhaps these new town homes will be just what you need. McKenzie — Perry Homes has started construction on their new 8-unit, contemporary town homes located on the corner of Rose Creek Drive and Grove Park Lane. Called The George Town, these units will be maintenance free, featuring three bedrooms and will have 1,600 s.f. total living space. Each town home will also have a garage and a patio in the back. The front will be all brick with large loft like windows. Prices start at $164,900. For more information, call (770) 592-9989.

Batter Up Sports Cards & Memorabilia moved to a larger space in the Southpointe at Towne Lake shopping center, next to Johnny's Pizza. Needing to expand, the shop was happy to get additional space so close to where their previous shop was located. New at Batter Up this summer is Game Night. Every Friday night from 5 — 8 p.m., kids can come play their favorite games including MAGIC, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, and MLB, NFL, and NBA Showdown (your kids probably know what these games are — I unfortunately know nothing about what I just wrote!). This is a safe place where your kids will be supervised. They can trade cards with their friends, and you can have a couple hours of quite relaxation after a long week at the office.

Another new family fun place has just opened on Smoke Hill Lane, one mile east from Highway 5, behind the new Dodge Dealership on Highway 92. The Kramerville Sports and Entertainment Center is a place where your kids will want to spend lots of time this summer. It's equipped with everything from bumper cars and batting cages, to video games and inflatable moon-walks. You can celebrate your child's birthday here at a good, clean family fun center that caters to your kids.

A New You Skin and Body Clinic has opened an office in Towne Lake, located at 2001 Professional Parkway. The clinic features different personalized programs for your body and skin.

Mr. Handyman is scheduled to open his shop on July 1, in The Colonnade at Towne Lake. The owner, "Chip" Ahrens, will cater to homeowners and commercial customers who need property maintenance and repairs. If you need Mr. Handyman's services, you can visit him at Suite 105.

What's "Still in the Works"

The poles are still waiting for the traffic lights at the entrance of Towne Lake Hills East and West. As a result of complaints from the homeowners, one pole will be moved back away from the Towne Lake Hills East sign, and perhaps then we can move on to what is really important — our safety. Officials' say the traffic light should be up and running within 30 days.

Time marches on — the Crossing Shopping Center at Towne Lake Parkway and Buckhead Crossing is "progressing on schedule." According to a current layout of the parcel of property, a bank will be in the center between Chili's and Longhorn Steakhouse and Publix will sit to the rear of the property facing Towne Lake Parkway with retail stores on each side. Access to Crossing Shopping Center will be available from both Buckhead Crossing and Towne Lake Parkway.

On Going Construction
and Clearing

Yes, once again "there is nothing happening" on the corner of Bells Ferry Road and Eagle Drive. You have seen the big earthmovers, but the owners of this land insist they are still waiting for something to break on this piece of property.

"Working at the Car Wash". . . Hurricane Bay now boasts cement block bays. This project is well on its way to being completed soon. Located behind Bruster's Ice Cream, this will be a touch-less car wash for anyone who wishes to wash his or her own car.

Several pieces of heavy construction equipment can be seen at the site of the new Landscape Home Depot Center. This nursery will have wholesale and retail merchandise, as well as offer homeowners design and installation options. The property is located on Parkway 575, across the street from Suite One and Hampton Inn. Clearing continues for the Camping Time RV Center, which is going to be just north of the Landscape Home Depot Center. The RV center will focus on both sales and leases of recreational vehicles. Parkway 575 will terminate at the entrance to the Camping Time RV Center just south of Noonday Creek.

Ok, so Dairy Queen doesn't carry 53 flavors of ice cream, but do we really need a Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts shop less than 50 feet down the street? Not to mention the Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts and Togo's less than ½ mile up I-575 at the Towne Lake Parkway exit. Well, I guess we do, because that's what is coming soon on the property facing Highway 92 next to the Thomas Square shopping center across from Arby's. The construction and grading for this retail development, including the two shops, continues to move forward.

Have you been down Bells Ferry Road near the Wyngate entrance to see the progress of the Countryside Villas? These ranch town homes have open floor plans and two car garages. Countryside Cottage, LLC is the builder of these units that are priced from $168,900 and Countryside Villas will contribute toward closing costs.
