 What's New

The Etowah Lady Eagles will be happy to see their playing field when they get back to school, the school has put all new turf on the field. Congratulations Lady Eagles — keep up the great games!

Do you like to get involved in your child's physical development, as well as their social interaction? Jungle Jim Developmental Gymnastics and Movement Education, Inc., located in the Southpoint at Towne Lake Shopping Center behind McDonald's is a gymnastic center just for you. Owner, Angela Hopkins, says this new center will offer programs for youngsters from six months up to twelve years and children who have special needs. Jungle Jim's programs are designed to enhance developmental areas of young children, including gross motor skills, coordination, sensory stimulation, balance, and social interaction. Parents are encouraged to participate in the programs for the younger children. For more information, call (678) 494-9944.

A new ladies consignment store in the Shops at Eagle Pointe is scheduled to open around the first of August. My Place, too, will carry fine ladies clothing on consignment. This will be the second shop for owner Laura Hill, who says she will carry brand names including St. John, Jones and the Gap.

Happy Birthday to Towne Lake Fitness Center! Six great years. There are many in the Towne Lake area who are happy to see this Fitness Center growing — Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi are combined in a new strength, flexibility and stretch class, the bodypump workout class, and more. For more information, call (770) 592-9933.

Blimpies Sandwich Shop is under new management and is offering all their combos for $3.99. Better hurry, this offer may not last.

If your favorite luncheon diner is the Souper Grill, you will have to wait until they get back from their annual vacation on August 12. It will be just in time to treat yourself after sending the kids to school for their first day.

What's On Going

The property at Eagle Drive and Bells Ferry Road, which is now completely clear of trees and debris (except for one large tree), also has only requested clearing permits from the County Engineering Department. The large piles of dirt you see on the back end of the property come from another site owned by the same developer.

Bulldozers and large dump trucks have been busy removing dirt from the property off Eagle Drive and Rose Creek Drive; however, the County Engineering Department informed us the owners have only requested permits for clearing.

The 48-unit condominium on the property just off Towne Lake Hills South Drive has received approval by the Woodstock City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed three-story building will have secured parking below the building with access by elevators to the units. Scheduled to begin construction around the first of the year, this construction has also received favorable comments from the Towne Lake Hills South Homeowners' Association.

Georgetowne at Towne Lake, contemporary town homes located on the corner of Rose Creek Drive and Grove Park Lane, are due to be completed by the end of August according to the developers. Georgetowne will feature maintenance free, three bedroom units with single car garages and patios.

Additional engineering work must to be completed at the

Crossing Shopping Center before construction can begin on the Publix which will sit to the rear of the property facing Towne Lake Parkway with retail stores on each side. Washington Mutual Bank will be in the center of the property between Chili's and Longhorn Steakhouse.

The Landscape Home Depot Center, located on Parkway 575, is fast becoming a reality, just in time for our Fall flowers and Christmas decorations! (You know they never wait until December to bring that stuff out.) In addition, construction continues at the Camping Time RV Center, which is located just north of the Landscape Center.

The construction and grading for the retail development on the property facing Highway 92 next to the Thomas Square shopping center across from Arby's continues. A QT Station will be located in this development, as well as the Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts shop is progressing and we can "Have our donut and ice cream too!" — sooner than our waistlines need.

Finally, we are saddened to see that Bobby Rubino's BBQ & More in the Towne Lake Village Center has closed their doors for good.

Note: A modification has been submitted for July's Around TowneAcademic Fashions will carry uniforms for Mt. Paran Christian School, not North Cobb Christian School as previously printed.

Beef O' Brady's
by Leslie Proctor

Need a place to take the kids after the game at Hobgood Park? Or just have a basket of chicken wings and a beer after work in a relaxing environment? Well... Beef O' Brady's has the best of both worlds!

In 1985, Jim Melody dreamed up the idea of a neighborhood pub where friends and families could gather to enjoy good food and sports in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere.

The restaurant, which originated in Florida, has migrated to Georgia and brought their mouth-watering specialties with them, like their legendary Buffalo-style chicken wings smothered in a tasty sauce made from Jim's own recipe, the sandwiches which are substantial include the all-time favorites Philly Steak (which you can also get hot and spicy), Reuben, Cuban, Italian Submarine, and of course the "Watterson," roast beef and Swiss on grilled rye. "Beef's Big Bleu," a new menu item, is a chicken breast smothered with ham and Swiss cheese. And, of course, the famous burgers, like the "O'Brady Burger," all of them are 1/3 lb. of choice sirloin, cooked to order. The Reuben's are served on grilled rye bread and stuffed with tender corned beef and Swiss cheese. Fries can be substituted for the chips for an extra .99 cents. O' Brady's famous wings are slightly crispy and coated with just the right amount of sauce. During Happy Hour the wings are only 35¢ and domestic drafts are only 99¢!

During our visit, our waitress, Lindsay, was very pleasant and attentive, and was familiar with the menu to suggest a few items. We tried the Chicken Caesar salad, which had a very authentic Caesar dressing. The fried Grouper Sandwich, which you can also get grilled, was very moist and served hot on a Kaiser bun with tarter sauce.

Walter Voight, who is co-owner with Mike Mullens, was on sight to ensure our meal was enjoyable. As their slogan reads... "Every neighborhood should have one!"
