The American Business
Women's Association (ABWA) held its Annual Fashion show recently. The
event, held October 5 at the Cherokee Arts Center in Canton, raised money
to support the ABWA's scholarship program. Proceeds from last year's fund
raising provided three scholarships. Belk Department Store, located in
Riverstone Plaza in Canton, provided the fashions. The show included raffle
and door prizes.

Steve
Thomas Cancer
Fundraiser
Big Success
As reported in our October issue, Bridgemill
Eyecare recently held a fundraiser for the Steve Thomas Cancer Fund. The
response from the public was overwhelming, according to Steve's wife and
Bridgemill Eyecare employee, Barb Thomas. "Because of the contributions
received, I can provide some much needed medication to my husband. I can't
tell you how many times I cried this weekend and how touched I am that
so many wonderful people, who don't even know me, are helping. I can't
thank you enough," said Barb. Steve has been diagnosed with lung cancer,
and his chemotherapy and radiation treatments have seized the growth of
the cancer cells. "Our fingers are crossed that Steve gets better quickly.
Only time will tell, though," remarked Tari Furey, Bridgemill Eyecare
office manager.
If you wish to make a donation to the Steve
Thomas Cancer fund, you can send it to Bridgemill Eyecare, 3760 Sixes
Road, Suite 106 Canton, GA 30114, (770) 720-4449.

The final community
meeting for the Woodstock Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) was held on
October 10. Residents and business owners who participated in the meeting
agreed that parking and designation of a historic district in the downtown
area are at the top of the wish list. Previous meetings have developed
three goals for the initiative: Increase transportation accessibility
and mobility options; expand and strengthen the downtown area; and increase
the viability of live, work and entertainment choices within the downtown
area. Within these goals, the largest number of votes went to expanding
and developing safe and convenient parking in the downtown area; encouraging
façade restoration, rehabilitation and reuse of downtown buildings;
and promoting an active downtown center with after-hours options such
as entertainment and dining. The next step is for ARCADIS, the consulting
firm conducting the LCI study, to present these community recommendations
to the Woodstock City Council.
