Golf Tournament Nets
More Than $3,100

The place: Eagle Watch Golf Course. The players: local golf aficionados. The cause: the Emergency Children's Shelter of Cherokee County.

More than 60 golfers participated in Internetspecials.com's first Annual Golf Benefit for the Emergency Children's Shelter of Cherokee County. Through generous donations from local businesses and individuals, the tournament netted $3,151 for the shelter. The shelter, the first of its kind in Cherokee County, offers refuge for children that are abused, neglected or molested.

Organizers of the event especially wanted to thank the Cherokee County Water Authority and Southstar Funding for committing 32 golfers.

Humane Society
Announces Holiday Gala

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) will host a Holiday Gala on Sunday, December, 8 at Featherstone's at Towne Lake Hills with proceeds benefiting CCHS. The Gala will begin at 6 p.m. and the cost will be $25 per person or $40 per couple for CCHS members; $30 per person or $50 per couple for non-CCHS members. Commissioner Sanders Completes Leadership Training

Cherokee County Commissioner Ilona Sanders was recently honored for completing the Association County Commissioner of Georgia (ACCG) Academy for Leadership. The four-day program was designed to specifically address the leadership role of county commissioners in Georgia. According to ACCG Executive Director, Jerry Griffin, "The Academy provides the information and resources that every elected official can use to be an effective leader in local government. Completing the Academy for Leadership indicates a sincere commitment to excellence on Sander's part." The Academy Leadership is an opportunity for officials to improve leadership skills, share ideas and consider solutions to problems.

On October 18, Maureen Walker, Lt. Governor for Zone 3 of the Cherokee County Optimist Clubs inducted the 2002 - 2003 officers of the South Cherokee Optimist Club. The newly elected officers are pictured above.

Senior Service Center
Offers Caregiver Help

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners declared the month of November as "National Family Caregiver Month." There are over 50 million family members who provide some type of caregiver service, and 80 percent of those people are employed outside of the home. Both "jobs" require overcoming certain obstacles, and the Cherokee County Senior Service Center can provide assistance. The Center offers a monthly class to caregivers taught by Olene Darby. Olene is certified in the Caring for You, Caring for Me program through the Rosalyn Carter Institute of Americus. For more information, please call Olene at (770) 345-5312.

Team Payam and All About Bodies A Full Service
Fitness Center

Owners Payam Mahmoodzadeh (Team Payam) and Denise Starling (All About Bodies) have joined forces to bring the Towne Lake community a new full-service fitness center. This merger will pull together two great teams to make one motivating personal training service to help Towne Lake area residents with their personal goals of staying fit.

Payam and Denise say they are "very excited about the merger and the high quality of service they will be able to offer the Towne Lake area residents." Also coming soon will be an expansion of All About Bodies to create a new super club with more amenities.
