New public servants
from the Towne Lake area, (back row, left to right): Michael Byrd and
Patricia Baker. (Front row, left to right): Chip Rogers and Derek Good.
Many individuals in our community have taken
the step to become a public servant. This year we have four more Towne
Lake residents joining this distinguished group. Eagle Watch resident
Chip Rogers is now the State Representative for District 15. Chip's first
day on the job was January 13 when the representatives voted for the new
Speaker of the House. Chip had this to say about his goals and reasons
for moving into public office. "I sought this office because I truly want
to help make Georgia a better place. Georgia has been my family's home
for over 150 years. I know it sounds strange, but since the time I was
eight years old, growing up in Kennesaw, I knew this is what I wanted
to do. The real fun starts now with the beginning of the session. I just
want everyone in southwest Cherokee to feel free to call me anytime about
any problem. I certainly won't have all the answers, but I will do the
best I can to help in any way possible." Chip also writes a column in
The TowneLaker.
Michael Byrd is Chairperson for the Cherokee
County Board of Commissioners, and Derek Good represents Post 4 for the
Board of Commissioners. Mike and Derek are eager to represent the Towne
Lake area and serve all the residents of Cherokee County. Both are residents
of Eagle Watch. Mike and Derek's first Board meeting began at 6 p.m. on
January 7.
Deer Run resident Patricia Baker joins the
Board of Education as board member for Post 6. Patty says, "I have tried
to prepare the best way I can by attending meetings the past few months
and by reading as much literature on the school board as I can. I take
my new role very seriously and want to do the best job I possibly can.
I had many supporters, and I do not want to let them or myself down."
These public officials are all excited about
moving into office, and they welcome your input. Our Elected and Appointed
Officials page lists the e-mail address for each. You can also send an
e-mail to The TowneLaker at editor@townelaker.com, and we will
gladly forward your questions or information to them. To all in our community
who are public servants, we congratulate and thank you!
