The
TowneLaker's 2003
Tournament of Roses Winners
Living into your 90s is quite notable. Living
into your 90s AND being married for 68 years is an amazing accomplishment.
Evelyn and Ellis (E.K.) Walker celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary
this past November. The Walkers were high school sweethearts at Liberty
High School in Liberty, Tennessee. They were married on November 24, 1934
when Evelyn was 22 and E.K. was 25. What does it take to remain married
to the same person for sixty-eight years? According to E.K., it's simple,
"Be in love when you get married, and don't go to bed angry."
The Walkers lived their whole life in Tennessee
and only recently moved to Woodstock. They currently reside at The Garden's
at Towne Lake Assisted Living. They moved here to be closer to one of
their daughters, grandchildren, and great grandsons.
Evelyn and E.K. have two daughters, Charlotte
who resides in Arizona, and Kay who lives in Canton. They have two grandsons,
David and Mike, and four great-grandsons, Ryan, Ben, Matt and Walker,
who bears his great grandparent's surname.
Evelyn has her own spin on how to stay together
as long as they have, "Marriage is a two-way street. You need to work
hard, and you need to work as a team."
Congratulations and may you have many more
happy years together.
Editor's Note: Flowers were given
to the winners courtesy of Brenda's House of Flowers.
