Cheerleading Clinics

A cheerleading clinic for girls ages four and up will be held on Monday, February 17 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The deadline to register is February 7. The clinic is designed to help develop all aspects of cheerleading. During the six-hour clinic, girls will practice tumbling, jumps, cheers, dance and more. You do not have to be a cheerleader to attend this clinic. Participants should bring a sack lunch and snacks. The cost for the clinic is $35. Call Neely Hand at (770) 924-7768.

Ladies Only Handgun Class

A ladies only handgun class will be taught on Tuesday, February 4 from 6 - 9 p.m. The course will teach women how to defend themselves in a criminal attack, to sharpen their shooting skills, and to load and unload a gun safely. The class will also give instructions on how to care and store guns properly and help get over the fear of owning and using a handgun. The cost is $35. Parents Night Out

Let the Center entertain your children while you have a night out. On Friday, February 28 from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., the Center will have special activities including games, movies, music and more. Know your children are safe and well-cared for in a kid-friendly environment. Cost is $12 per child for ages four and up and payment can be made when you drop off the kids. Summer Swim League

The Cherokee Summer Swim League is accepting new neighborhoods to join for the 2003 season. A team must consist of a minimum of 40 swimmers. The registration deadline is Friday, February 14. For more information, call Betsy Allgood at (770) 924-7768.

Valentine Stamp Camp

If your child likes to be creative or just have fun, bring him or her on Saturday, February 8 from 10 - 11 a.m to the Center. Each child will learn how to rubberstamp and make beautiful creations. They will make a card, gift bag and a Valentine treat. The class is for ages six and up and the cost is $5. For more information, call Neely Hand at (770) 924-7768.

Silver Roamers

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites, and having a great time, the Silver Roamers Club is for you. They meet monthly to discuss upcoming events. The next meeting of the Silver Roamers will be Monday, February 3 at 11 a.m. at the Recreation Center. Membership is only $20 per year, which allows you many benefits including discounts on events and trips. The Silver Roamers will celebrate Valentine's Day on February 13 with a potluck lunch and bingo party. Everyone is encouraged to bring a favorite winter dish to share. Drinks and dessert will be provided. The cost is $5, and the festivities will begin at 12 noon at the Recreation Center.

The Silver Roamers will head to Franklin, NC and stroll through the Whistle Stop Antique Mart. The trip will be Wednesday, February 26, and the cost will be $4 for members and $6 for non-members. The cost includes transportation only - additional money will be needed for lunch. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call (770) 924-7768.

Join the Silver Roamers as they travel to Charleston, SC. March 24 - 27. The trip will include visiting Charleston's old mansions, gardens, the French Quarter, Rainbow Row, the slave market, Fort Sumter and more. Special dining will be at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory and the Charleston Crab House. The cost for this trip is $340 for members and $350 for non-members for a shared room. For a single room, the cost is $440 for members and $450 for non-members. Payment is due in full by March 3. A sign up sheet has already been started. Recreation Center

The Center is located at the South Annex at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Center is closed Sunday. For more information, call (770) 924-7768.
