Mia Holtzman, a junior
at Etowah High School, was recently selected as Cherokee County's Junior
Miss. Mia was chosen out of 27 other contestants during the annual two-day
scholarship program. America's Junior Miss is a scholarship program for
outstanding, college-bound high school girls, and it is much more than
a beauty contest. Contestants are judged on academics, talent, fitness,
poise and one-on-one interviews with a panel of judges. Mia's title came
with a $4,500 scholarship and one year of local community appearances.
She will represent Cherokee County at Georgia's Junior Miss program in
July.
Mia carries a 3.9 GPA and is a very busy
and involved young lady. At school, Mia's activities include Student Ambassadors
and Leader's Council. She is an avid dancer and studies ballet, modern
dance, lyrical, hip hop and pointe at the Woodstock School of Ballet.
In fact, she was one of the dancers chosen to perform at the NBA All Star
Game held recently in Atlanta. Mia also works part-time at Gold's Gym
and is an active member of the Woodstock Community Church youth group.
She hopes to attend either the University of Georgia or Ohio State University
to study dance. According to her parents, Darlene and Rick, Mia's dream
has always been to pursue a career in dance. In fact, Rick purchased an
ad in the Junior Miss program which read, "Mia, tonight is another journey
toward your dreams. Dance your dream."

More than 50 people were in attendance and the silent auction raised more
than $1,600 for the Cherokee County Walk America, which will be held on
Saturday, April 26 at Ridgewalk in Woodstock. For more information about
