The TowneLaker's
2003 Mother
of the Year

Dawn Price

Congratulations to Dawn Price from The TowneLaker's Community Advisory Board for being selected the 2003 Mother of the Year.

Dawn is a very amazing person. She undauntedly has reared three children even through she is quadriplegic. This has not stopped this fine lady from rearing her children to not only respect her, but also every other person they meet. Dawn's teenage children, Devin and twin brother Ross and younger son Jacob, are students at Etowah High School. She has always worked at home just so she could be there for them. You know when you talk to Dawn that her children are her life and she would do anything for them.

"My Mom is the most independent person I know," says her daughter Devin. Dawn has taught her children not to give up, not to compromise their values and always try to help others when they need help.

Dawn comes from a very closely knit family. In 1979, she moved to the area from Rochester, NY, following her parents. Her mom Gail Price presently lives in Centennial Place. Dawn's brother Don Price, lives in Summerchase and her 93 year-old grandfather, Win Gorden, lives in The Gardens at Towne Lake.

After waiting four years, Dawn was able to attend a two week camp this past October in Alpharetta to receive a service dog from Canine Assistant. The program matches individuals with the dogs that best suit his or her needs and personality. Through a rigorous two weeks of working with several different dogs, Dawn was given Grayson, a beautiful golden retriever, who like Dawn's children, adores his master. The family also has a small cocker spaniel named Onyx.

Congratulations Dawn, you are truly a remarkable lady.

Mother of the Year Dawn Price and daughter Devin Barnard.

"Hi, my name is Devin Barnard. I am 17 years old and I wanted to nominate my mother for Mother of the Year. If you don't pick her that's OK because she will always be Mother of the Year in my eyes. My mother is the most important person in my life. She adopted me and my brother Ross when we were born, from her best friend. Well, she is a quadriplegic. She was able to give birth to my younger brother Jacob. She got a divorce when we were two and three. She raised the three of us all by herself. Ross and I are 17 and Jacob is 16 now, and she has done an amazing job at it too. She works from home so she can be with us as much as possible. She is the most independent person that I know. She drives herself everywhere and just got a working dog named Grayson. By the way her name (mother's name) is Dawn Price. She is amazing. She has been able to raise us through thick and thin. I don't know what I would do without her. If there is anyway that you all can acknowledge this amazing woman please let me know. She has been in a wheelchair for 21 years and has been able to adapt to everything. When I am feeling down she has a way of picking me right back up. When I am having a really bad day I just think about her and her achievements and it lifts me up. I love her with all of my heart and feel that she deserves some recognition for being so amazing. Please find some way to acknowledge this amazing woman. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Devin Barnard
