AARP Driver Safety
Program
The AARP is offering a driver safety course
on May 6 and May 8 from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. The class is designed for drivers
age 50 and older, but younger drivers can take the course to receive automobile

Adopt-A-Stream Workshop
The Upper Etowah River Alliance sponsors
an Adopt-A-Stream program, which is open to all citizens in the upper
Etowah River basin. A chemical monitoring workshop will be held on May
3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority's
Rose Creek Wastewater Facility in Woodstock. There is no charge to participate.

American Red Cross Blood Drives
The American Red Cross is in need of blood
donations, all types, but especially "O." Donating is safe and takes about
an hour. Most healthy people who are at least 17 years-old and weigh at
least 110 pounds are eligible to give. Blood drives will be held at the
following locations:
May 1, Arnold Mill
Elementary School, 1:45 - 6:45 p.m.
May 2, Etowah High
School, 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Health Fair to Benefit Cherokee
Family
Violence Center
The first annual Cherokee Holistic Health
Fair will be held on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and will benefit
Cherokee Battered Womens Center. The fair be held at Clear Touch Wellness
Center in downtown Woodstock. Donations of pillows, towels and washcloths
are encouraged as a donation in exchange for holistic services. For more

Cherokee County Humane Society and
Flowers4Pets
Remember Mom and help homeless pets for Mother's
Day on May 11. Flowers4Pets is an FTD floral promotion which donates a
portion of the profits to the Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS). To
order your Mother's Day flowers, call 1-866-364-PETS (7387) and specify
the CCHS as the designated charity.
Charity Reception
World of Gymnastics
will host a Charity Reception with 1996 Olympian John Macready on Friday,

Lake Allatoona Awareness Day
The Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority
is inviting the general public to Lake Allatoona Awareness Day on Saturday,
May 17 at the Landing Marina from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be exhibits,

Library Run/Walk 2003
The Annual Library Run 5K and Fun Walk 2003
will be held on May 3 at the Ball Ground Community Center. Registration
begins at 7 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is
encouraged and forms may be picked up at any public library in Cherokee

Lighted Boat Parade
On Friday, May 16, the Lake Allatoona Preservation
Authority will host a lighted boat parade. The parade will be held to
celebrate Lake Allatoona Awareness Week, which runs May 12 - 17. The theme
for the parade is "Enlightening Lake Allatoona from Shore to Shining Shore."

Miss Georgia Peach
Beauty Pageant
The Second Annual Miss Georgia Peach Beauty
Pageant will be held on Saturday, May 31 at Teasley Middle School. The
pageant will be from 11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m., and the cost is $60. The proceeds
from the pageant will go to the Cherokee Scholarship Fund. The pageant
is for ages birth through 25. Everyone will receive an award. For more

Mother Daughter Tea
The Youth Department at R.T. Jones Library
will present a "Mother-Daughter Tea" on Saturday, May 10 from 2 - 3:30
p.m. The tea is for all Cherokee County young ladies (ages 8 years old
and up) and their mothers or another person who has had the mom role in
their lives. There is a $3 fee per guest to be paid upon making a reservation
and there will be no refunds. (See page 26 for details.) For more

Summer Youth
Musical Theatre
Summer Youth Musical Theatre is a six-week,
intensive training program in musical theatre for ages 7 -18. The program
runs June 16 through August 2 and includes training in acting, voice,
dance, scene painting, lighting, costumes and design. The program will
