From the
Towne Lake
Business Association
At the time of this writing, we have narrowed
our list of candidates for the Towne Lake Business Association's (TLBA)
first annual "Trail Blazer Scholarships." Two $1,000 scholarships will
be awarded to a college bound or technical school bound graduating senior,
one each from Etowah and Woodstock High Schools. In addition to academic
achievement, our goal is to identify those students who have demonstrated
true entrepreneurial spirit and vision, along with a history of community
involvement. We look forward to announcing our winners in next month's
column.
I would like to take this opportunity to
commend all of our current members. It's a fantastic feeling to see our
membership grow and hear all the positive comments as to how our Lunch
'N' Learn workshops have helped in the daily operations of our members.
I'm sure many of you would love to run your own business, but may not
be aware of just what it takes - or should I say what you have to give
up. There is no such thing as a five-day work week, working only 8 to
5. In fact, the owner performs many of the tasks themselves, such as cleaning,
marketing, being the CEO, CFO, and personnel manager - whatever it takes.
But, we wouldn't trade if for anything!
On to TLBA member news. Nominations for TLBA
officers for the upcoming elections will be accepted, beginning at our
May Lunch 'N' Learn workshop. We eagerly look forward to enthusiastic
and creative members to step up and take the reins. We also are gearing
up for the TLBA's 3rd Annual Golf Tournament, which has been scheduled
for September. Proceeds from this tournament will be used to fund our
Trail Blazer Scholarships, along with providing funds for other events
benefitting our members and the community. Yes, it's early, but never
too soon to mark your calendar!
To learn more about the TLBA or to become
a member, please visit www.tlba.org or come to one of our workshops on
the third Tuesday of each month from 12:30 - 2 p.m.
As always, we thank you for supporting our
local businesses, and thus, our Towne Lake area community, and for "Keeping
Towne Lake Dollars in Cherokee."
