Selected Outstanding
Superintendent
The Georgia PTA selected Cherokee County
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank R. Petruzielo as the State of Georgia's
Outstanding Superintendent. This announcement was made during the recent
PTA Annual Meeting and Banquet which was held in Atlanta. Leslie Cushman,
13th District Director, Georgia PTA, stated "It is quite an honor to have
Dr. Petruzielo selected as recipient of this prestigious award. It is
indicative of the leadership he has provided in establishing the excellent
relationship between Council PTA, school PTA units and the School District."

Hall of Fame Inductees
Honored
The newly organized Cherokee County Sports
Hall of Fame recently honored 15 individuals who have distinguished themselves
in the field of athletics in Cherokee County. Ten of the honorees are
still living and were present at the inaugural event held at the Reinhardt
College Gordy Center. Relatives received the awards for deceased inductees.
The Sports Hall of Fame was a vision of Canton Mayor Cecil Pruett. Mayor
Pruett, along with a group of Cherokee County citizens, organized and
elected a Board of Directors, and the outcome was the first Annual Sports
Hall of Fame reception. Honorees included Cindy Ely Angelich, Debbie Groover
Bucknes, Paul Cagle, Dave Harris, Harold Huey, Mickey Lowery, Tom Pharr,
Harold Scott, Joe Thomas and Judy Milford Wickes, and deceased members,
Homer Adams, Lewis Carpenter, D.B. Carroll, Fred Perkins and Hamrick Smith.

Congressman John Linder recently held an
Open House for his new Congressional District Office in Cherokee County.
"My new Cherokee office will afford the constituents of the Seventh District
even greater access to members of my staff who can assist with problems
with the federal government," Linder said. "My staff can help constituents
with a variety of problems they may have with federal agencies, as well
as provide information about other services, such as service academy nominations
and the Congressional Art Competition.
"Every year, I am amazed at the level of
talent displayed by the high school students participating in the art
competition," said Linder. "One of the greatest joys of my job is the
opportunity to promote the educational and artistic achievement of our
young people," he continued. Students from 11 district high schools participated
in this year's competition. Congressman Linder held a reception honoring
the Seventh District Art Competition participants and winners prior to
his Open House.

Society Annual Spring
Tea and Fashion Show
The Woodstock Women's Society recently held
their Annual Spring Tea and Fashion Show at Tea Leaves 'N' Thyme Tea Room
on Main Street in downtown Woodstock. This year's Fashion Show raised
more than $2,000 which was donated to the Cherokee County Emergency Shelter
for Children. The Woodstock Women's Society, which meets on the first
Monday of each month, also elected new officers for 2003 - 2004.

Day Festival and Library
Sale
Downtown Woodstock was the hub of excitement
recently as it held its Annual Woodstock Day. Special activities available
to the large crowd included the annual Library Sale, arts and craft booths,
and vendors selling hotdogs, peanuts and cotton candy. The sun was warm
and inviting as attendees strolled through the park and watched demonstrations
by the K9 Unit of the Woodstock Police Department and the Fire Rescue
Department. The first concert in the park was performed by Confederate
Railroad as the Police Department collected more than $350 in donations
for our Military Personnel from the attendees.

New Animal Hospital
of Towne Lake Ground Breaking Ceremony
Dr. Sherry Weaver, owner of Animal Hospital
of Towne Lake, recently moved closer to her goal of a veterinary practice
double in size of her present hospital. Dr. Weaver hopes to have the new
hospital, which will be located at Parkbrooke Circle, across the street
from Peking & Tokyo, open by Thanksgiving, expanding her operating
capacity and the animal boarding space.
