Cherokee Soccer Association

The Cherokee Soccer Association (CSA) offers recreational soccer for ages 4 through 19, both co-ed and same sex teams. The CSA is currently holding registration for Fall leagues. There are several practice and game locations throughout the county. For more information, please contact SueZan King at (770) 704-0187. The CSA Redwing Soccer Club will hold a soccer camp July 21 - July 25 from 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Hobgood Park. The camp is for boys and girls, ages 5 through 14, beginner and intermediate players. Early registration deadline is July 9. For more information, please call the Redwings Soccer Club office at (770) 924-1390. The CSA will sponsor a 6 V 6 Kickoff Tournament August 16 - 17 at Hobgood Park. The 6 V 6 is a short-sided youth soccer game which enables young players to improve their ball skills and advance their understanding of soccer. The entry deadline is August 1. Children's Consignment Sale

The Hillside Mission Trippers is looking for consignors for its Annual Consignment Sale benefiting mission trips both locally and abroad. The sale takes place August 22 - 23. Only high quality fall and winter children's clothes, toys, furniture and accessories will be accepted. Funk Heritage Center Expands Community Education

The Funk Heritage Center, located at Reinhardt College, will offer an array of educational programs for schools and the community beginning this Fall. Core programs will include curriculum-based tours for school children, outreach for schools and community organizations, and hands-on materials within the museum. Meals on Wheels

The Cherokee County Meals on Wheels program is looking for volunteers to deliver meals during lunchtime. There is a particular need for drivers on the east Hwy 20, toward Cumming, route. The time commitment is minimal, one day per week for 1½ hours. Volunteers will need to provide his or her own vehicle, have a valid driver's license and insurance. Mental, Drug and Alcohol
Informational Program

Probate Court Judge Kip McVay will give an informational program about Probate Court procedures for persons with mental, drug and alcohol problems. The programs will be July 1 at the Hickory Flat Community Center, July 7 at Free Home Community Center, July 14 at Airport Community Center, July 22 at BridgeMill Community Center and July 29 at Waleska Community Center. Miss Cherokee
Liberty Pageant

The Miss Cherokee Liberty Pageant will be held on Saturday, July 19 at the Cherokee County Recreation Center. The pageant is for ages 0 months through 17 year-old. Everyone will receive a custom trophy and gift bag. Entry fees and donations support the organization's scholarship program. Early registration deadline is July 10. MUST Ministries
Summer Lunch Program

Since 1995, MUST Ministries has fed hundreds of hungry children through its Summer Lunch Program. The program will run through August 8. The program relies solely on monetary donations and volunteers to prepare approximately 525 lunches per day for the Cherokee area. Papa's Pantry
Summer Update

Papa's Pantry is proud to announce founder and operator, Lynne Saunders, has chosen to operate Papa's Pantry on a full-time basis. This is great news for the non-profit organization which helps families who are experiencing unexpected financial hardships. Papa's Pantry is partnered with area churches and other non-profits, and provides food assistance to the families in our community. Financial donations or non-perishable food items are needed, a donation barrel is located in the lobby of The TowneLaker office at 1025 Rose Creek Drive, Suite 340. CCHS News

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) will hold their 1st Annual Art for the Animals in September. For information, please contact Felicia McAleer at (770) 516-7885. Also on Wednesday, September 17, the CCHS will hold their 5th Annual CCHS Golf Tournament at the Eagle Watch Golf Club. Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses or individuals. Please contact Lynn Oglesby at (770) 928-1165. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. For information, call (770) 345-7270. Also, the Cherokee County Humane Society Pet Adoptions (animals from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter) will be held from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5 and July 12 at the PetsMart on Highway 92 and on July 13 at the PetsMart on Barrett Parkway.
