American Red Cross Babysitting Course

A babysitting course will be held on Monday, August 4 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. This course is ideal for current and future babysitters, and it will teach important childcare skills such as bathing, CPR, feeding, interviews, food preparation, safe play and more. The course includes interactive and hands on experiences. Each participant will receive a babysitter's handbook and official certification. Please bring a sack lunch. The cost is $45 and is for ages 11 - 15.

Music Therapy

Healthy Beats provides music therapy for children with special needs. Group and individual sessions are offered. Sessions are tailored to fit the needs of every individual in a group. For more information, please call Healthy Beats at (678) 520-3080.

Parent's Time Out

On Tuesday, August 5 from 3 - 7 p.m. parents can bring their children to enjoy music, games, crafts and a snack/dinner. Parents can then enjoy a night out knowing their children are safe and having fun with other children. The cost is $25 per child for ages 5 and up.

Tang Soo Do Classes

This is an on-going class held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 - 8:45 p.m. for ages 6 to adult. The class is a form of martial arts which helps build self-esteem and confidence as well as discipline and self-defense. The monthly cost for the class is $45 for 2 days per week or $30 for 1 day per week. Classes are held at the Activity Center on Rope Mill Road. Silver Roamers

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites, and having a great time, the Silver Roamers Club is for you. They meet monthly to discuss upcoming events. The next meeting is Monday, August 4 at 11 a.m. at the Recreation Center. Membership is only $20 per year, which allows you many benefits including discounts on events and trips. If you are interested in joining, simply stop by the Recreation Center and apply. The August 4 meeting will include a potluck lunch and bingo. The cost is $5 and CRPA will provide fried chicken and drinks. Everyone is asked to bring a

On Wednesday, August 13, the Silver Roamers will travel to the

Smith House in Dahlonega for a family style lunch. After lunch, the group will visit some of the city's unique shops. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for non-members and includes transportation and lunch. Departure from the Recreation Center will be at 9:30 a.m. and from the Canton Senior Center at 10 a.m.

The Silver Roamers are planning to tour Westville Village on Tuesday, August 26. This is a living history museum, depicting an 1850 West Georgia village with demonstrators presenting 1850s' crafts, quilting, potting, blacksmiths, and open-hearth cooking. The group will have lunch before they begin the tour. The cost is $22 for members and $25 for non-members and includes lunch, transportation and admission into the village. The group will leave the Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 8:30 a.m.

Registration deadline for Silver Roamers planning to attend the GRPA Octoberfest 2003 is August 25. This tour includes Barnsley Gardens, Etowah Indian Mounds, Roselawn, dinner theater at 1902 Stock Exchange and more. The group will spend three days and two nights in the North Georgia Foothills. The cost for a single is $325 for members and $335 for non-members. The cost for a double is $255 for members and $265 for non-members, which includes all meals and accommodations at the Red Top Mountain Lodge.

Tumbling Classes

Monday, August 11 will begin the new tumbling classes at the Recreation Center. Tumble 2, 3 and 4 will learn a variety of motor skills development incorporating music, movement and tumble in a fun environment. Other tumbling classes available are the Kinder Kids, Beginning Girls I, Beginning Boys I and Tumble for Cheer. The days and times vary so please call the Recreation Center for additional information.
