Linda Parker was recently appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the State Children's Trust Fund Commission. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Georgia Republican Party and the Advisor to the Georgia Teenage Republicans. She is the former Chairman of the Cherokee County Republican Party. Linda has been active in Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club and the American Red Cross. "The primary purpose of the Fund is to support the establishment of community-based educational and service programs designed to reduce the occurrence of child abuse and neglect in Georgia," Linda said. "If my life has a golden thread that is woven throughout it, it would be about children - educating them, caring for them and advocating them. They are our future. They are gifts from God to be cherished. I am looking forward to meeting the challenges and experiencing the joys of serving on the Children's Trust Fund Commission," she continued. Linda lives in Towne Lake with her husband Kenneth.

WDDA pull together toward enhancing downtown Woodstock

Painting the "Towne Red" was taken literally in historic downtown Woodstock recently. A number of the business buildings had their Wall Street fronts painted brick red as part of the Woodstock Downtown Development Association (WDDA) efforts toward downtown enhancement. This was the first step toward a series of efforts that are being planned. The painting was accomplished in close concert with both commercial and civic-minded individuals who saw a need and worked to get it done. Woodstock Mayor Bill Dewrell said, "It is a great example of the type of projects that can be accomplished when citizens and merchants pull together."

The WDDA will also present a candidates forum on October 7 at 7 p.m. at the Woodstock Community Church sanctuary. This will be a forum where the citizens of Woodstock can present prepared questions to the city council candidates. There will also be boxes at the entrance with question forms before the event. For more information or to submit questions, please call Lee West at (770) 591-7101 or email him at lee@dms.cbeyond.com.
