Alzheimer's Association 5K
Memory Walk

The Alzheimer's Association is hosting its Annual 5K Memory Walk on Saturday, October 11. The walk will be at the Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City. American Red Cross
Blood Drives

The Red Cross is in dire need of blood donors, with a special appeal to those who have type "O" and "B" blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Blood drives will be at the following locations: October 5, Acworth UMC from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; October 16, Woodstock Community Church from 2:30 - 7:30 p.m.; October 19, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.; and October 23, Oak Grove Elementary School from 2 - 7 p.m.

CCHS Yard and Antique Sale

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) will hold its Annual Yard and Antique Sale on October 3 - 5 at the Elegant Flea Antique Store. The sale will be held 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The sale will feature antiques, consignment-quality clothing, baby items/furniture and household goods. Proceeds will benefit the CCHS and its programs. For more information or to volunteer, please call Myra Young at (770) 312-7730.

Cattle Barons' Ball

Cowboys and Cowgirls grab your hats and boots for the Inaugural Cherokee and Cobb County Cattle Barons' Ball. The event is on Saturday, October 4 at Tanglewood Farm beginning at 6:30 p.m. The country western themed party will benefit the American Cancer Society. The fun includes food, activities, silent and live auctions and gaming tables. Tickets are $50 per person. For more information, please call (770) 429-0089.

Garage Sale Benefiting
American Stroke Association

A large garage sale benefiting the American Stroke Association will be held on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18 at 4088 Dream Catcher Drive in Deer Run. The sale is coordinated by Barbara Bonatucci who will be running a marathon in Bermuda next year to raise money for the Association in memory of former Towne Lake resident Sandra Perkovich. Along with garage sale items, there will be drinks, a bake sale and a raffle. Donations for the sale are being accepted through October 8 and are tax deductible. Chasing the Turkeys 5K Run/Walk

The Second Annual Chasing the Turkeys 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 8:30 a.m. The Run/Walk will start at the Towne Lake Hills East clubhouse. The cost is $15 for ages 14 and older and $10 for under 14. A festival will follow the run from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Towne Lake Hills East playground. The race benefits MUST Ministries. Cherokee Chicken Run

The first Annual Cherokee Chicken Run will be held on Saturday, October 25. The event will include a 5K and a One Mile Fun Run. All proceeds benefit the Cherokee FOCUS community collaborative and the Faces of Cherokee Community Calendar.

Divas and Dames Fashion Show

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rich's-Macy's will host an evening of fun and fashion on Saturday, October 4 from 6 - 9 p.m. at Lenox Square. Local media and celebrities will model the latest fall styles. Sue Gagain of the Breast Cancer Support Group of Towne Lake will also model. Proceeds benefit several Breast Cancer charities. Admission to the fashion show is free.

March of Dimes Auction

The March of Dimes will hold its Annual Star Chef's Gourmet Auction on Sunday, October 26 beginning at 6 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions, and guests can sample signature dishes from some of the area's finest eateries. Pet Adoptions

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is open for pet adoptions Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Pet adoptions are also held every Sunday in October at PetsMart on Highway 92 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more information, please call Amy at (770) 345-7270 ext. 2.

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) also hosts pet adoptions on weekends at locations in Woodstock and Kennesaw. All the animals are from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. All adoptions are from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Adoptions will be held at PetsMart on Highway 92 in Woodstock on Saturday, October 4, 11 and 25. Adoptions will also be held at PetsMart on Highway 92 on Sunday October 5 and 19. Adoptions will be held at PetsMart on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw on Sunday, October 12 and Sunday October 26. On Saturday, October 4, Animal Hospital of Towne Lake on Eagle Drive will host their pet adoption from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority will host a CCHS Pet Adoption from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. during Fall Hay Day on October 18. For cat lovers, adoptions are held every Saturday at PetsMart on Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
