Leesa Parker
Named
Teacher of the
Year
Leesa Parker, a 5th
grade teacher at Liberty Elementary School, was recently selected as Cherokee
County's Teacher of the Year. Each Cherokee County school selects a Teacher
of the Year to represent its respective school. A committee, made up of
County and non-County residents, chose Leesa from this group. Superintendent
Dr. Frank Petruzielo, Assistant Superintendent Gloria Kellogg and Director
of Public Information, Communications and Partnerships Mike McGowan surprised
Leesa with the announcement and a dozen roses while she was teaching class.
According to Karen Hawley, Principal at Liberty Elementary, Leesa is the
right choice for the County. "I am so glad the judges could see the kind
of teacher she is. I would want her to teach my child," stated Ms. Hawley.
Wendy Delp, a 5th grade science and health teacher, said, "Leesa sets
high standards for the children, and they achieve these standards. She
is the most amazing person with the biggest heart." Former student Karl
Gressly was thrilled his 5th grade teacher was awarded the title. "She
was the best teacher I've had. She always helped me during our lunchtime
and went above and beyond. I've become a better math student because of
her," said Karl. In response to the title of Teacher of the Year, Leesa
said, "I'm overwhelmed. This is a tremendous honor and the greatest honor
besides being a mother." Congratulations Leesa!

the country. Locally, $15,000 was raised for MPS programs and research.
The overall winner of the 5K event was Chuck Jones of Acworth. Other finishers
include local residents Howard Brummel of Woodstock and Lisa Price of
Towne Lake. Organizers would like to thank Runners World magazine
and local sponsors including Kroger, Starbucks, Athlete's Foot, Coca-Cola

MPS affects major organs including the respiratory
system, heart, bones and the nervous system. It affects mostly children
and is caused by the body's inability to produce certain enzymes. For
