Art Event and Fundraiser

An art event featuring local artist Ann Litrel will be held on Friday, January 23 from 5:30 - 10 p.m. The event will be at Our Special Place in downtown Woodstock. Proceeds from the benefit will go to the Cherokee County Emergency Children's Shelter. The art will feature landscapes of Cherokee County. The cost of the event is $10 and can be used toward the purchase of art and includes a buffet and wine bar and all festivities. For more information, please call Ann Litrel at (770) 517-3060.

Baseball Team Hosting
Fundraiser Dance

The 12U War Eagles Baseball team will host a holiday dance on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m. The dance will be held at the Cherokee County Recreation Center. Music will be provided by DJ John and karaoke also will be available. Refreshments will be available for attendees. The cost is $5 per person at the door for grades 4th - 7th.  CSA Spring Registration

The Cherokee Soccer Association (CSA) is currently holding registration for the Spring season. The organization has practice fields at Hobgood Park, Sequoyah Park and Boling Park. Free Weight Management Seminar

Join Laura Perry for a free seminar on weight management, emphasizing the healthy and natural way. She offers simple, practical ways to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Love Lights a Tree

Love Lights a Tree is an annual tree lighting benefiting the American Cancer Society. The community is asked to donate $15 or more "in honor of" or "in memory of" a friend or loved one. For each donation, an ornament with the honoree's name is put on the community tree. The lighting of the tree will be on Friday, December 5 at 5:30 p.m. on the square in downtown Canton. There will be entertainment and Santa Claus, and the Northside Hospital - Cherokee Auxiliary will serve cookies and hot cider. For more information, please call (770) 479-5551.

Papa's Pantry Fundraiser

Papa's Pantry is holding a fundraiser through December 6. The organization is selling gourmet food items through Two Sisters Gourmet. The items will be delivered the week of December 12, in plenty of time for Christmas. Ordering information is available on their website at www.papaspantry.org.

Parents Morning Out

The Cherokee Outdoor YMCA is offering Parents Morning Out for ages 2 - 4. Parents can choose from three different sessions per month: Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday or Friday. Registration is limited to one session per month and will run through May. Children will learn important social skills and participate in games, story time and arts and crafts in a safe and fun-filled environment. For more information, please call (770) 591-5820.

Pet Adoptions

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is open for pet adoptions Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m, with all adoptions beginning no later than 5 p.m. Pet adoptions are also held the 2nd and 4th Sunday in December at PetsMart on Highway 92 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more information, please call Amy at (770) 345-7270 ext. 2.

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) also hosts pet adoptions on weekends at locations in Woodstock and Kennesaw. All the animals are from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. CCHS pet adoptions will be held on Saturday, December 6, 13 and 27 and on Sunday, December 7, 14, 21 and 28 at the PetsMart on Highway 92, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Adoptions will be held at Petco on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw on December 20 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Pet adoptions will also be held at the PetsMart on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw on Sunday December 14 and 28 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Project CatSnip will have the low-cost mobile unit available for spay/neutering on all cats and dogs under 25 pounds on December 2 and 15. Support Group Available for
Speaking Engagements

The Breast Cancer Support Group of Towne Lake is available for speaking engagements. Members of this support group have in some way been touched by breast cancer. Groups who may be interested such as women's groups, church groups, office groups, etc. may call Sue Gagain at (770) 516-9670.

  Veterans of Foreign War

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is looking for new members to maintain the 1.9 million membership across the country. Service personnel who served oversees and received a campaign medal, received imminent danger or hostile fire pay, or served in Korea anytime are eligible. The VFW has been at the forefront of every major veterans issue for 104 years, including the GI Bill, GI Home Loans, Veterans Employment Preference, accessible VA health care and compensation benefits for our disabled veterans.
