AARP Tax Return
Assistance
for Seniors
American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
will offer free income tax preparation assistance to low or moderate-income
tax-payers age 60 and older. Volunteers will be available from 9 a.m.
- 1 p.m. each Monday, beginning February 2 through April 12 at the Cherokee
Recreation and Parks Authority Center at 7545 Main Street to help with
tax returns. Those needing assistance will need to bring current tax records
and a copy of last year's income tax return. For more information, please

Beef O'Brady's Hosts
MPS Family Day
Beef O'Brady's will host the 2nd Annual MPS
Family Day on Wednesday, February 25. The event is in honor of Towne Lake
resident and Bascomb Elementary School student, Erin Peters who suffers
from MPS. MPS is a disorder where blood cells do not perform properly
and may cause progressive damage throughout the body, including the heart,
bones, joints, respiratory system, and central nervous system. Beef O'Brady's
will make a donation from the day's sales to the National MPS Society.
Come enjoy a good meal and support a worthy cause at the same time! Beef
O'Brady's is located at 4427 Towne Lake Parkway, next to Publix at Rose
Creek.
Bruster's Warm Coat Program
Bruster's Real Ice Cream and a non-profit
charitable organization, Operation Warm Coat, will be helping disadvantaged
children. Through the "Cool Cone and Warm Coat" program, customers can
purchase $10 donation cards that provide new, quality coats to needy children
in our community. The recipient of the card can redeem it for a free ice
cream waffle cone at participating Bruster's. The cards will be distributed
through March. The local Bruster's is located at 2905 Eagle Drive.
Camp Invention Returns
Camp Invention will return to Bascomb Elementary
School June 14 - 18. The camp is a science and creativity camp that provides
children with hands-on activities that encourage creative solutions. Camp
Invention is for children who will be entering 2nd through 6th grade in
the fall of 2004. Registration is currently being accepted, and slots

Cherokee County Volunteer
Aging CouncilHosts 4th
Annual Gala Auction
The Cherokee County Senior Services, in collaboration
with the Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council, is seeking donations
for their 4th Annual Gala Auction to be held on March 20 at the historic
Rock Barn in Canton. The proceeds from the event will go toward the Last
Stop Emergency Fund, which assists Senior citizens in Cherokee County
who have little or no means to pay for services, such as medical prescriptions,
eye and dental exams, utilities, groceries and minor home repairs. For

Cut-A-Thon for
the Children's Shelter
Jyl Craven Hair Colour Studio in conjunction
with the BridgeMill - Sixes Service League will hold a Cut-A-Thon
with all proceeds benefitting the Cherokee County Emergency Children's
Shelter. Haircuts will be offered at the special rate of $15 for men and
$25 for women. The Cut-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, February 15 from
11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Jyl Craven Colour Studio, 3760 Sixes Road, Suite 114.

First Annual Fur Ball
In honor of the 10th Annual Spay Day USA,
Around Town Community Magazines will be hosting the first Annual Fur Ball
for all animal-loving, two-legged friends on Saturday, March 6 at The
Canton Theater, 171 E. Main Street in downtown Canton. Event Chair Gina
Carr says sponsorships are available for the event at the Platinum, Gold,
Silver and Bronze levels. Platinum event sponsors include Around Town
Community Magazines, CENTURY 21 Advantage, Cherokee County Humane Society
and 23½ Hour Locksmith. All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting

Marathoner Benefits Charities
Local Towne Lake resident Christina Evans
will run the London Marathon in April while raising funds for two
charities close to her heart. The first charity is the National Society
for Epilepsy. Christina's sister-in-law's five year-old nephew suffers
from a severe form of this condition. To support this charity, please

the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund in honor of her thirteen year-old neighbor
who has been diagnosed with this rare disorder, which leads to bone marrow

Northern Entrepreneurial Women
Northern Entrepreneurial Women (NEW) is designed
for the woman who owns her own business and enjoys networking with other

Papa's Pantry
Papa's Pantry is a year-round local food
ministry that reaches out to families who experience an unexpected time
of need. Special needs currently are non-perishables. Monetary donations
are also encouraged to purchase perishable items. A collection barrel
