The TowneLaker's 2004
Tournament of Roses Winners
Virginia & Harry Keith

Harry Keith is very thankful to his Brother-in-law Edward Monbourne for introducing him to his wife Virginia. Virginia was the bookkeeper for the laundry shop where Edward made deliveries. Harry stopped in one day with Edward and was introduced to Virginia. Edward said "You should ask her out," and Harry said, "I don't even know her." Well that didn't seem to stop Harry; he asked Virginia out and they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1947 - that was 57 short years ago!

Harry didn't make very many brownie points with Virginia's Mom when he asked Virginia's Grandmother for her hand rather than Virginia's Mom (something he was often reminded of). "Well I lived with my Grandmother in Ebensburg, PA because my Mom said 'Your Grandmother needs someone to take care of her and I thought OK, I will. So I lived with her most of my life," Virginia said.

This is a theme that was set for both Harry and Virginia. "If there is a need, take care of it." They instilled this same mind set with their five children, four live here in Georgia and one still lives in their home state of Pennsylvania. The Keith's also have 11 grandchildren.

The Keith's moved to Georgia after Harry had a heart attack and retired early. "We were on our way to Florida and stopped to visit our son in Marietta, enjoying the visit so much we never made it to Florida before it was time to go back to Pennsylvania." A couple of weeks later they decided to try again to visit Florida, deciding not to stop at their son's, but changing their mind they stopped and the rest is history. They decided they would look for a retirement home in Georgia and found it here in southwest Cherokee.

Congratulations to Harry and Virginia and may every Valentine's Day be special!

Tournament of Roses
Honorable Mention
Mary & Harold Pusey

This year's Honorable Mention couple has been married only four months less than our winners. Mary and Harold Pusey were married on June 21, 1947 - nearly 57 years ago! This couple was destined to spend their lives together - they actually lived on the same street growing up but didn't know it until years later. The Puseys moved to The Arbor's in 1996 wanting to get away from the cold winters in their home state of Michigan. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Congratulations Mary and Harold!
