AARP Tax-Aide

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will offer free income tax preparation to low or moderate income tax payers age 60 and older. The assistance is available each Monday through April 12 at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority Center from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Those needing assistance will need to bring current tax records and copies of last year's income tax returns. Blood Drive

The Red Cross of America is in need of blood donors due to a critical shortage of blood. Type O and B are particularly needed. A blood drive will be held at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority Center on Monday, March 8 from 2 - 7 p.m.

4th Annual Gala Auction

The Cherokee County Senior Services, in collaboration with the Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council, is seeking donations for their 4th Annual Gala Auction to be held on March 20 at the historic Rock Barn in Canton. The proceeds from the event will go toward the Last Stop Emergency Fund, which assists Senior citizens in Cherokee County who have little or no means to pay for services, such as medical prescriptions, eye and dental exams, utilities, groceries and minor home repairs. Clark Howard to Speak at Woodstock High School

Consumer advisor and radio talk show host Clark Howard will speak at Woodstock High School on March 11 at 7 p.m. Clark's visit is sponsored by Suntrust Bank, WSB TV and the Woodstock High School PTSA. All proceeds from the event will benefit the PTSA. Admission is $1 at the door.

E.T. Booth Recycling Bin

E.T. Booth Middle School has a newspaper-recycling bin set up in the east end of the parking lot in front of the school. Proceeds will benefit the Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS). The student body chose to help the environment while supporting the CCHS in this community outreach project.

Family Fair

The fourth Annual Family Fair, sponsored by the HOPE Center, will be on Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Fair will be held at the Southern Antique Gallery shopping center located at Highway 5 and Highway 92 in Woodstock. The resource-networking event will consist of bi-lingual representatives from agencies and churches from Cobb and Cherokee Counties. The purpose of the Fair is to connect families with resources in their communities. The HOPE Center is a pregnancy resource center located in Woodstock. First Annual Fur Ball

In honor of the 10th Annual Spay Day USA, Around Town Community Magazines will be hosting the first Annual Fur Ball for all animal-loving, two-legged friends. The Ball will be held on Saturday, March 6 at The Canton Theater, 171 E. Main Street in downtown Canton. Platinum event sponsors include Around Town Community Magazines, CENTURY 21 Advantage, Cherokee County Humane Society and 23½ Hour Locksmith. Indian Festival and Pow Wow

The 14th Annual Cherokee County Indian

Festival and Mother's Day Pow Wow will be held May 7 - 9 at Boling Park in Canton. The event is the South's premier Native American showcase with dancers, drummers, singers and educators from numerous tribes across the country. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Children 3 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit several non-profit organizations for the improvement of the welfare of Native American communities.

March of Dimes Wine Tasting Benefit

The March of Dimes will hold its 5th Annual Wine Tasting Benefit on Tuesday, March 16 from 6 - 8 p.m. The event will be held at Featherstone's at Towne Lake Hills. There will be wine tasting, hors d'ouvres and a silent auction. The cost is $10 per person and all proceeds benefit the March of Dimes. For further details, please call (770) 977-3114.

North Metro Miracle League

North Metro Miracle League is an adapted baseball league dedicated to providing mentally and physically challenged youth an opportunity to play organized baseball. "Buddy" assistance is provided for players who require assistance on the field. The six-game season will begin on April 3 at Etowah High School. Scholarship Deadline

Cobb EMC and its Volunteer Task Force award $1,000 and $800 George R. Ford Memorial Scholarships to two local high school students annually. The application deadline is March 12. For information, please call (678) 355-3124.

The Towne Lake Business Association awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to a graduating college or technical bound senior at Etowah and Woodstock High Schools. The TLBA Entrepreneurial Scholarships will be awarded based on applications completed through the counselors at these schools. Women's Wellness Seminars

Northside Hospital - Cherokee WomenFirst is offering women's wellness seminars with information every woman should know. Doggie University Information Session

Doggie University uses volunteers to train shelter dogs so they will be more adoptable. More volunteers are needed to help the dogs get ready for adoption. Tennis Charity Invitational

The Towne Lake Hills Tennis Club will be sponsoring a charity event to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) on May 7 - 9. On Friday, May 7 there will be a free Junior clinic and an afternoon cookout. That evening, there will be a party with a live and silent auction and tennis demonstrations by top local pros.
