The TLBA is conducting our annual Entrepreneurial Scholarship contest. In May, we will announce the winners of two $1,000 scholarships at Awards Night at Etowah and Woodstock High Schools. To apply, contact a counselor at your school.

Co-founders Lon Vetula and Laurie Maeder.

Dr. Phil advises that, "Even if you haven't made the right decision, you can make your decision right." That good advice applies not only on a personal level, but also on a technological level.

Laurie Maeder, co-founder of Quantum Computer Consulting (QCC) sees this scenario in small and mid-size businesses all the time. "Business owners start up their businesses with whatever equipment might be at hand," Maeder explains. "As they grow, they add more computers and pretty soon they have an office full of different equipment loaded with different software. The computers cannot communicate together, and aren't protected from the Internet, resulting in a communication shut down."

Laurie has been an independent computer consultant since 1993. Co-founder Lon Vetula has worked on computers for 23 years and took college level programming courses at age 10. They are technology experts who specialize in helping correct technology decisions. "We go into our clients' offices and look at what hardware and software they are using. We learn their business, objectives and distinctive needs. Based on this information, we provide the best advice and service available for small business," Vetula says.

All service calls performed by QCC result in savings. Recently, QCC was called to uncover the cause of a drastic slow-down in a client's DSL connection. Upon inspection, files of bootlegged movies were discovered to be stored on his hard drive. People were downloading movies from his computer, reducing his DSL connection to a crawl. QCC quickly solved the problem and the client was back in business.

In addition to troubleshooting, QCC provides preventative maintenance, many software services, and custom-built personal computers, work stations and servers, and it maintains business networks and security.

QCC has been a member of the TLBA since 2003. Laurie and Lon have lived in Wyngate for the past two years. In their spare time, Laurie and Lon both enjoy playing ALTA tennis.
