Local Student Donates Hair
to Locks of Love

Emma Levido, an 11 year-old Towne Lake resident, recently cut 11 inches off her hair to give to "Locks of Love." Locks of Love utilizes donated hair and resources to create wigs and provide them to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 with permanent medical hair loss. Emma has lived in Towne Lake all her life and according to her mother Sandy, she has always been known for her long hair. "Many people were surprised to see Emma make such a big change. She is so happy she did because she knows she has possibly helped another feel good about themselves," stated Sandy.

As reported in the April issue of The TowneLaker, several local girls and women will be cutting their hair on May 11 at Bascomb Elementary School and donating the hair to Locks of Love as well. For more information about the Locks of Love program, visit www.locksoflove.org.

Northern Sub-Area and GA 400 Analysis Discussed

Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) Senior Project Manager Roger Henze presented several Cherokee County residents the results of a two-year GRTA study on how transportation and land-use may be realized over the next 25 years. The study, Northern Sub-Area and GA 400 Analysis, covered 1,080 square miles, including Cherokee and five other counties. Three scenarios were discussed including a needs-based approach that would address unmet needs in the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP); a policy-based alternative that would consist of a combination of mobility and land-use improvements; and a local-plan based approach, which would consist of existing land-use policies and transportation plans of county and local governments. GA 400 was the focus of much of the study and attendees voiced a desire to have more attention directed at traffic along I-575. GRTA Executive Director Steve Stancil said he supported the Northern Arc to improve east-west mobility, but officials are looking at other options. "We are getting monies to improve GA 20, it's not going to be enough and it's not going to come quickly," he said.
