The
TowneLaker founder Gina Carr-Kyle, Georgia's First Lady Mary Perdue, CENTURY
21 Advantage Operations Manager Ginny Gross and SMASH Magazine editor
Gina Bennett.
Mary
Perdue was the guest speaker at the recent Cherokee Chamber of Commerce
Administrative Professional Luncheon. Mrs. Perdue discussed her passion
for Georgia's children, the need for more foster care parents and the
alarming report statistics about child abuse and neglect. The First Lady's
Our Children Campaign was touted by Sonia Carruthers of Families of Cherokee
United in Service (FOCUS) as well as others in attendance at the luncheon.
The TowneLaker founder Gina Carr-Kyle noted that everyone in Cherokee
County needs to be made aware of the importance of helping these children,
and FOCUS and The First Lady's Our Children Campaign certainly are instrumental
in that endeavor.

State
Representative Chip Rogers recently announced that he would seek re-election
to the General Assembly in the newly created State Senate District 21.
The new district includes all of the area Rogers currently serves along
with the city of Woodstock and parts of northeast Cobb County. Representative
Rogers also signed the Americans for Tax Reform pledge to not raise
taxes while in office. He is the first candidate for the State Senate
to do so. Rogers signed a similar pledge prior to entering the State House
of Representatives. He fulfilled that pledge by not voting for tax increases.
Rogers recently authored House Bill 653 which prohibits minors from possessing
tobacco products. The bill passed the State Senate by a vote of 49 - 0.
The penalty is up to 20 hours of community service or the minor must attend
a class on the dangers of tobacco use. The State primaries will be held
July 20.

Local
Student Donates Hair
to Locks of Love
Emma
Levido, an 11 year-old Towne Lake resident, recently cut 11 inches off
her hair to give to "Locks of Love." Locks of Love utilizes donated hair
and resources to create wigs and provide them to financially disadvantaged
children under the age of 18 with permanent medical hair loss. Emma has
lived in Towne Lake all her life and according to her mother Sandy, she
has always been known for her long hair. "Many people were surprised to
see Emma make such a big change. She is so happy she did because she knows
she has possibly helped another feel good about themselves," stated Sandy.
As
reported in the April issue of The TowneLaker, several local girls
and women will be cutting their hair on May 11 at Bascomb Elementary School
and donating the hair to Locks of Love as well. For more information about
the Locks of Love program, visit www.locksoflove.org.
