Gentle Joints

Gentle Joints is a low-impact aerobics class designed specifically for Senior citizens. The class format will vary with each instructor and may include the use of hand weights, elastic bands and exercise balls. Classes will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 a.m., and the cost is $25 per month.

Pitching Machine Baseball

Registration for Pitching Machine Baseball will continue through May 21. The season begins May 25. Pitching Machine Baseball is for children ages seven years old and no older than eight on June 1, 2004. Game times will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Silver Roamers

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites, and having a great time, the Silver Roamers Club is for you. They meet monthly to discuss upcoming events. The next meeting will be held on May 3 at Anthony's Italian Restaurant on Bells Ferry Road at 11 a.m. Membership is only $20 per year, which allows you many benefits including discounts on events and trips. If you are interested in joining, simply stop by the Center and apply.

Senior ladies are invited to attend a special event to be held on Thursday, May 6 at Tea Leaves & Thyme. Come dressed in your finest dining attire for Afternoon Tea. The food will include finger sandwiches, scones, and a fine selection of desserts, hot tea and more. The bus will depart from the Canton Senior Center at 10:15 a.m. and the Recreation Center at 11:15 a.m. The cost is $16 for members and $18 for non-members.

What a day this will be! Join the Seniors as they witness several Cherokee County Seniors and other Seniors from around the State of Georgia as they perform during the 2004 Senior Talent Showcase. The Talent show will be held at the Grand Theatre in Cartersville on May 8. Before the show, the group will stop at Ryan's Restaurant for lunch. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for non-members, which includes admission and transportation. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 12 noon.

The Senior Aerobics Program is just one of the many programs offered at the Center. The CRPA Recreation Center is located at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. For more information, please call (770) 924-7768.

On Wednesday, May 12, the Silver Roamers will be going to the Booth Western Art Museum to view the collection of contemporary Western art, Civil War art, presidential photographs and more. After the tour they will head to downtown Cartersville to explore the shops and restaurants. They will also visit the Bartow History Center. The bus will depart from the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $10 for members and $12 for non-members. This includes transportation and Booth Museum admission only.

Come to the Recreation Center on Wednesday, May 26, and join the Silver Roamers as they celebrate May Is Older Americans Month! The celebration will include bingo and a pot luck lunch at 12 noon. Enjoy an afternoon of fellowship with new and old friends. Please bring your favorite dish to share with everyone. The CRPA will provide the meat and drinks. The cost is free to members and $5 for non-members.

Start Smart Baseball

Start Smart Baseball is an introductory program for children ages three through six. This program prepares them for organized baseball in a fun, non-threatening environment. Using Koosh equipment, parents will work one-on-one with their child practicing a variety of baseball skills including throwing, catching, batting and running. The program will be held every Thursday beginning May 13 through June 17 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. The cost is $65 and includes T-shirt, Koosh Glove and ball, a Mondo Koosh ball, a Koosh Bat and foam ball, and one Start Smart Baseball manual.

Tiny Mite Summer T-Ball

Registration for Tiny Mite Summer T-Ball will continue through May 21. The season begins May 25. Tiny Mite is for children at least five years old and no older than six on June 1, 2004. Game times will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the cost is $70. Volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, please call Ben Brown (770) 924-7768.
