Try Your Hand at
Panning for Gold

In the 1830s, Cherokee County, and in particular, the Sixes Road area, held some of the richest gold mines in the State. The mines are empty now, but recreational panning is still available. Sixes Creek and Blanket Creek off Sixes Road offer convenient sites for recreational gold panning for the public. Local resident Rob Kelly has offered to help those who are interested, get started in recreational gold panning. He can also provide information on local clubs with leases on private properties with gold-bearing lands and streams. For more information on local gold panning, please contact Rob at (770) 516-7044 or rob.Kelly@bellsouth.net.
