Back Pain Seminar

On Friday, July 15 at 7 - 9 p.m. Breathe . . . A Yoga and Massage Studio will offer a free class on overcoming back pain. Co-owner and massage instructor Ann Pauley and co-owner and yoga instructor Shalan Hill will discuss the causes of back pain and the anatomy of the back. Beta Sigma PhiWoodstock Chapter

One of the largest international women's organizations is starting a new chapter in Woodstock. The purpose of Beta Sigma Phi is to provide women the opportunity for social, cultural and service activities. The club is dedicated to giving women the chance to grow both in mind and spirit, and members must be at least 18 years of age. The organization is non-political, non-sectarian and their motto is "Life, Learning and Friendship." The meetings will be held once a month. Fall YMCA Soccer Registration

The registration deadline for the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA Fall Soccer 2004 is Monday, July 26. Practices will begin in late August. For more information, please call (770) 591-5820.

Fan Drive for Seniors

The Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council and Huey Funeral Home are once again collecting donations for their annual fan drive. Many Seniors are on a limited income and cannot afford to operate their air conditioner or because of health conditions cannot use them. Last year, more than 93 fans were distributed to Cherokee County Seniors. Fans can be dropped off at the Senior Center on Univeter Road or the Huey Funeral Home. Anyone who is 60 years of age or older and needs a fan or if you would like to donate, please call (770) 479-2193.

Free Comic Book Day

Comic Books, ETC, located in the South Pointe at Towne Lake center, will hold its Third Annual Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, July 3 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. The event will feature a large variety of free comics available for children and adults. Gardening with the Masters

The Cherokee County Masters Gardeners will present a seminar on creating a backyard wildlife habitat on July 17 at the Cherokee County Senior Center on Univeter Road from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Master gardener Karen Garland and intern Elizabeth Smith will share ideas on how to get "up close" to wildlife right in your own backyard. Low-Cost Mammograms

WellStar Health System will offer low-cost mammograms on July 7 and July 21 from 9:20 a.m. - 4:20 p.m. at the Towne Lake Medical Center at 145 N. Medical Parkway. The cost is $68 and a physician's written order is required. For more information or for an appointment, please call (770) 956-STAR.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Seminar

A Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Seminar will be held on Tuesday, July 27 at Northside Hospital - Cherokee Education Center from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Karen Smith, M.D., Medical Endocrinologist and Anthony E. Karpas, M.D., Endocrinologist will discuss this syndrome which causes great risk for diabetes, uterine cancer and heart disease as well as the psychological struggles involved with this disease. Sewrifics of Cherokee

Sewrifics is a branch of the National Sewing Guild providing community service projects for several community organizations, including fire and police stations, Battered Women's Shelters and the Ronald McDonald House. They sew bags and fill them with shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc. The bags are also used for children, filling them with small toys or used as overnight bags to take to the hospital. This club is open to anyone, with our without sewing ability. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the BridgeMill Cherokee County Community Service Center on Bells Ferry Road. Stingray Swimming

The Stingray Swimming program is expanding to Eagle Watch in September. The organization will place a tent similar to a wedding tent with windows over the main pool and heat the pool. Trekkers Walking Club

The Trekkers Walking Club is a walking club which walks 2 - 3 miles in the Towne Lake Hills neighborhood and is open to the public. The club will walk on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. starting from the gazebo at the Towne Lake Hills East park. Football Registration
