Center in Acworth
The
Cherokee County Senior Services recently announced the grand opening of
a new satellite center located at Heritage Presbyterian Church on Bells
Ferry Road. The Center is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursdays. Participants
should be at least 60 years old, have transportation to and from the Center

Student Recognition Program

Baseball Fundraiser
The
Etowah High School Dugout Club will sponsor a Texas Holdem Poker Tournament
charity fundraiser on Saturday, August 28. The tournament will be held
at JT's Bar and Grill in Roswell. The fundraiser will benefit Etowah baseball
and Habitat for Humanity. The event will include prizes, food and drink.

The
Cherokee Family Violence Center is seeking volunteers. The Center offers
shelter and support groups for women and children who are victims of domestic
violence. The Center will be hosting a free volunteer training session

Cherokee Master Gardeners recently announced the opening of its Farm and
Garden Market at Cagle's Dairy Farm. The market will operate through the
end of October from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. There will be weekly demonstrations

Cuttery Cuts for Charity
Three
local Hair Cuttery salons will participate in the Hair Cuttery's 2004
Share-A-Haircut program. Beginning August 1 though 15, for every kid's
cut purchased at one of the three locations, Hair Cuttery will donate
a free haircut to a less fortunate child through surrounding local social
and children's service agencies. The participating salons are located
in the Rose Creek Shopping Center, 4451 Towne Lake Parkway, Centre at
Woodstock; 12195 Highway 92; and RiverStone Plaza, 1453 Riverstone Parkway.

Mammography Van
A
mobile mammography van will be at the Towne Lake Medical Center on Wednesday,
August 4 and Wednesday, August 18. The van will be there from 9:20 a.m.
- 4:20 p.m. both days. Most insurance plans are accepted, but a physician's

a faith based organization that for 31 years has been dedicated to providing
services to persons in crisis while maintaining their dignity. Two-thirds

Papa's
Pantry
Papa's Pantry is partnered with area churches
and other non-profits and provides food assistance to the families in
our community. The Pantry is located at 351 West Main Street in Canton.
The Pantry is in need of breakfast and lunch items, specifically dry cereal,
peanut butter, jelly, canned meats and boxed dinners. They also need laundry
detergent and toilet paper. Financial donations or non-perishable food
items also are needed. A donation barrel is located in the lobby of The
TowneLaker office. Volunteer opportunities are also available. To

on Managing Migraines
and other Headaches
Northside
Hospital - Cherokee Education Center along with neurologist Dr. Scott
Cooper will present a seminar on managing migraines and other "sick" headaches
on Tuesday, August 24 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Participants will learn about
mild to severe headaches including symptoms, causes and their relationship
to hormonal changes. The latest treatment options will be discussed as
well as when headache symptoms require immediate attention. Registration

The
HOPE Center
The
Helpful Options and Pregnancy Education (HOPE) Center is a non-profit
organization designed to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs
of women who may be facing an untimely or unplanned pregnancy. The Center
offers a variety of services, including free pregnancy tests, educational
materials, mentoring and long-term support, community referrals and more.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, ranging from a few

Center Opens
The
new Cherokee Tennis Center, located at the J.J. Biello Park on Highway
5, will hold a grand opening on August 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The
facility has 10 lighted courts and a club house and will be under the
direction of Gary Johnson and his staff, Lee Nickell and Dale Berry. The
grand opening will include free clinics, round robin matches, prizes and

Sale Benefiting Animal Shelter
Volunteers from the
Cherokee County Animal Shelter will hold a yard sale benefiting the Shelter.
The sale will be held Friday and Saturday, August 6 and 7 from 9 a.m.
- 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 8 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The sale will be held
in Roswell at 3902 Fort Trail in the Garrison Oaks subdivision. For specific
