American Red Cross Babysitting

On Saturday, August 14, the American Red Cross will hold a babysitting class for ages 11 - 15. This class is ideal for current and future babysitters. It will teach important childcare skills as well as safety. Students will have an interactive and hands-on experience. The cost is $45, and each participant will receive a babysitter's handbook and official certification. Please bring a sack lunch.

Peyote Bracelet Workshop

This workshop will teach participants the art of the Peyote stitch, using three colors of delicate beads and finishing with a choice of two clasps. The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. for ages 16 and older. The cost is $25 and includes supplies. Silver Roamers

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites, and having a great time, the Silver Roamers Club is for you. They meet monthly to discuss upcoming events. The next meeting will be Monday, August 2 at the Recreation Center. Membership is only $20 per year, which allows you many benefits including discounts on events and trips. If you are interested in joining, simply stop by the Center and apply.

On Thursday, August 12 the Roamers will head to Anniston, AL to the Anniston Natural Museum. The museum is one of the country's oldest exhibits of birds in their natural habitats. Following the museum, the group will tour the Berman Museum of World History. Lunch will be at the Cracker Barrel. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for non-members and includes transportation and lunch. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. from the Canton Senior Center.

Join the group on Wednesday, August 18 as they head to the Atlanta History Center, Swan House and lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. The Atlanta History Center features local history dating as far back as Atlanta's Native Americans. The Swan House is a 1928 mansion lavishly decorated with most of its original furnishings. The cost is $35 for members and $38 for non-members and includes transportation, tours and lunch. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. from the Canton Senior Center.

Hopeful Hoops is a program for special needs kids - one of the many programs offered at the CRPA Recreation Center. The Recreation Center is located at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. For more information, call (770) 924-7768.

On Tuesday, August 24, the Roamers will head to the Dillard House and enjoy a Southern, family-style meal. The Dillard House is a legend in the North Georgia Mountains. After lunch, enjoy a stroll through Dillard's shops. The cost is $25 for members and $27 for non-members and includes transportation and meals. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. from the Canton Senior Center.

Diane Kovach will lead the Seniors in a beading class on Tuesday, August 10 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Participants will be able to create their own bracelets, choosing from a variety of beads. The cost is $15 and includes supplies.

Tang Soo Do

This form of martial arts is for everyone - children, teens and adults. It teaches discipline, self-esteem and confidence. The first class is free, and there are introductory offers. The class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m for ages 6 through 12 and 7:45 - 8:45 p.m. for ages 13 and older. Friday classes will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for all ages. Twisting and Tacos

Join magician Tommy Johns and learn the art of balloon twisting. The event will begin with participants making their own tacos to enjoy during Tommy's balloon twisting show. He will twist everything from animals to sports players. He will then teach parents and children how to balloon twist. The event will be held on Saturday, August 7 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for children 6 and under, $7 for children 7 and older and $2 for parents. The cost includes the tacos, the show, balloons to learn on and balloons to take home and practice.
