Taking Time to Remember 9-11

September 11, 2001 will be etched in our minds forever. On September 10, 2004, Cherokee County held a memorial service for the victims of 9-11 and their families and loved ones. State Representative Calvin Hill opened the ceremony and introduced the guest speaker Congressman John Linder. Congressman Linder spoke of our need to remember our military service personnel who put their lives on the line daily in an effort to keep our country safe. He also reminded those in attendance that we must all do our part to help the next generation to understand the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001 and to guard against a re-occurrence. Cherokee High School Band instructor Pam Mullins led the band in a musical tribute, and during a moment of silence, sirens were sounded. Cherokee High School senior Lee Thomas and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Sgt. Bryan Thomas then played taps.
