Optimist Club Inducts
New Officers

The South Cherokee Optimist Club began its 29th year of service with an inauguration of new officers. The new officers are: Robert Brown, President; Jeffrey Mette, Vice President; Carla Barnes, Secretary; and Julie Ann Brennan, Treasurer. The South Cherokee Optimist Club recently welcomed new member Allen Freeman. Allen is a Certified Financial Planner, and he is an instructor at Kennesaw State University. He lives in Towne Lake with his wife Carrie and three daughters, Keela, Macey and Abigail.

Local Muralist Featured on Television

Local muralist, Melaney Bracken of Melaney's Murals recently was featured on the Fox show Renovate My Family. The show, hosted by Jay McGraw, son of Dr. Phil McGraw, chooses a family with needs, and within one week, they totally rebuild the family's life and home. Of the experience, Melaney said, "The staff of Renovate My Family treated everyone with a tremendous amount of patience and kindness. This is a show you definitely don't want to miss!" Nearly 300 participants gathered on a beautiful September morning to take part in the 5th Annual Run for Erin. The walk/run was held to benefit the National MPS Society and the children who suffer from this rare progressive genetic disorder to which there currently is no cure. The event raised more than $13,500.

Run for Erin is held in honor of Towne Lake resident Erin Peters, age 15. Erin attends Woodstock Middle School, and she represented the thousands of children in need of treatment from the MPS disorders. MPS disorders affect the major organs including the respiratory system, heart, bones and the nervous system.

The overall winner was Valentin Alvarez. The overall female winner was Christina Evan. The Masters male winner was Mark Dudle, and the Masters female winner was Debbie Kordon.

Local Insurance Agent Recognized

Towne Lake resident and State Farm agent, Steve Cannon, was recently recognized at the State Farm Business Meeting held in Switzerland. Steve was first in life insurance volume and thirty-third in the company in new life premium credits out of 17,000 agents.
