These email ballots must be submitted to The TowneLaker by Friday, March 11, at 5 p.m. Listed below are all of the candidates from the Cherokee County schools in our area, along with their thoughts. Please take time to cast your ballot today.

Bascomb Elementary School - Marilyn HoehneAs the Media Specialist at Bascomb, I am fortunate to work with ALL of the students, staff, and parents. This gives me numerous opportunities to foster a love of reading! In the words of Alice Hoffman, "Books may well be the only true magic."

Carmel Elementary School - Margie BurtHi! I'm Margie Burt and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Carmel Elementary School. Teachers often get asked about their inspiration to become a teacher, and honestly, I'm not sure when I decided to become a teacher. I think I always was one! I was a teacher's kid and literally grew up in school and went to college not to become a teacher. But, somewhere in between Journalism and English, my Education major appeared! It was simply meant to be. I am a teacher, and it is what I love. It is my passion. I have never thought of teaching as a job. It is what I do and I feel very fortunate to get paid for doing what I love to do everyday!

Kleven Boston Elementary School - Julie TillmanI look forward to my job as a teacher everyday. My special education students give me valuable lessons in tolerance, acceptance and compassion. I admire my students and their parents so much for facing their challenges, whether they are physical, mental or emotional, with such courage.

Chapman Intermediate School - Bettina MillerBeing selected as Chapman's Teacher of the Year is a great honor. Chapman like every school in the county has enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated teachers. I have always known that I would be a teacher. I have had fabulous models like Mrs. Harper, my second grade teacher, who made me feel secure and loved after moving; Mrs. Dudowicz, my third grade teacher, who taught me to take pride in my work; and my fourth grade teacher, who read aloud the most wonderful books, thereby planting the seeds of adventure and my love of travel.

E.T. Booth Middle School - Leigh RogersThe teaching profession has always been a career that I have respected and admired. Many people and experiences throughout my life helped influence me to become a teacher, especially my brother. There are so many reasons that I love teaching, but most of all I believe I am making a difference in the lives of our students. I am proud and honored to have been chosen as E.T. Booth Middle School's Teacher of the Year.

Woodstock Middle School - Jackie BrackmanThe one career I never aspired to was teaching. Music was my first love and what I wanted to pursue. Teaching was a "back-up" career, but it has become my first love. Music is still there, but I love my students, what I teach, and just - teaching! For 27 years I have crafted what I do with both regular and, for the last 15 years, gifted students. They are my rewards - seeing them blossom from just teenagers into real, live students. What a joy that is!

Woodstock High School - Kerry MartinI love to teach because it gives me the opportunity to work with children and be a positive role model. I feel that so many teenagers are searching for someone to look up to. I like to think that they respect me and feel respected in return. Many of them need to know that someone cares about them. They have lost their self-esteem along the way and need reminding that they are worth something. I try to provide successful experiences for them to build their self confidence and it is amazing to watch them grow as individuals.

Etowah High School - Ana PettitI had wanted to become a teacher since first grade and my dream has been fulfilled as a result of the many years of working with the students at Etowah High School. My students are the most important reason I love my job and look forward to coming to "school" each day. I rarely refer to what I do as "my job" because it is so much more than that to me. It allows me to be a true life-long learner.

CrossRoads Middle/High School - Rosalie DelpI have been teaching for 13 years. I taught in California, Meadowcreek in Gwinnett, Cherokee High, and now CrossRoads. I wanted to be a P.E. teacher in high school but got married and started a family. I was working at a newspaper and decided to go back to school. After getting my A.A., I volunteered at the high school in security and they asked me to work there. The principal asked me to run a new discipline program the school had just created.  He came to my room one day and asked me to get my B.A. and be a teacher for him. That night, he had a major heart attack so I decided that is what I should do.
