Everday Angels

For the month of April, Everyday Angels will focus on two families who are struggling through their worst nightmare. First, we offer our deepest sympathy to the Laney family as they have entered into their heartbreaking journey of sorrow for losing their daughter, Lynn. Everyday Angels along with the community has kept Lynn in our prayers since she had patiently waited for a liver transplant. However, we so sadly learned that her body could no longer wait and she left us here to be with the Lord. She left behind her sweet, caring parents and eight-year-old son, Geoffry. While Lynn is no longer with them, her spirit lives through each of them. We pray for the comforting presence of God in the midst of their unbearable grief and strength for Lynn's parents in leading her precious son. Everyday Angels will contribute to Lynn's son's college fund. You also may contribute either by sending your donations to Everyday Angels or to the bank directly.

Another family we constantly lift up is the Slifcak family as they spend their days at Scottish Rite as their sweet daughter Nicole is recovering from a February car accident. Nicole is going through a lot of surgery and rehab and it will take time, patience and strength from both Nicole and her parents as she recovers. The outpouring of love and support from friends and the community has been a reminder of why we live in such a wonderful place. Nicole has a long road ahead, but there isn't a day that goes by that the Slifcaks aren't grateful for their second chance. She is a strong girl and she is working hard on her road to recovery. Please support the Slifcak family as their neighbors and friends host a barbeque to assist in medical expenses. Please put this date and time on your calendar as we all continue to pray for Nicole's recovery.

Everyday Angels will contribute to both families this month and encourage our readers to make a difference as well.

May God keep you and your children safe and healthy!

Dr. Eric Richards

Dr. Eric Richards wears many hats. He's a chiropractor and the owner of Healthsprout in Woodstock. He's husband to Laura and father of a nine-week old baby girl, Brooke. He is also an avid ice hockey player and fitness enthusiast. Dr. Eric has a simple mission which permeates his professional and personal life: Give everyone the opportunity to achieve optimal health without drugs or medication. His desire and passion to create optimal health for individuals, particularly children, makes him April's Pathfinder.

Dr. Eric was nominated by Karre Cromwell. "In addition to all he does to help his patients improve their overall quality of life, he is also very active in the community, especially in supporting the local youth," she said.

Dr. Eric is a committed and loyal supporter of the Junior Service League. For the past two years, he has sponsored a home in the League's annual Tour of Homes. He is also a sponsor in the JSL's Spring Gala. He feels a kindred spirit with the JSL because they, like him, support MUST Ministries and give to the children of Cherokee County.

Dr. Eric and Healthsprout support MUST Ministries by sponsoring the Annual Chasing the Turkeys race in Towne Lake. This event, a 5K run/walk and family festival, raises thousands of dollars each November to help MUST with its Thanksgiving dinner program. The event also allows him to further his mission by providing education to parents regarding children's health and raising healthy children. Healthy children are so important to Dr. Eric that he works with the Redwings Soccer league and provides healthcare to hurt or injured children who otherwise could not access healthcare due to financial restraints. "It's my goal to get involved with children in need and provide a vital service to them," he said.

Dr. Eric recently held a collaborative youth connection forum. Participants consisted of individuals who, like Dr. Eric, have a vested interest in children. The goal of this forum and the group going forward is to expand existing programs in the community geared toward children and to strengthen these programs. The core focus of this group is getting children healthy. "I have always been passionate about children's health, and this is one more way to potentially make a positive difference in their lives," he stated.

Dr. Eric also started the Trekkers Walking Club, a walking club which walks through Towne Lake Hills East on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Anyone is welcome to join. He started this club because he said a lot of people don't realize the power of walking and how good it is for the body. It's also given him an opportunity to talk about health and educate people.

Thank you, Dr. Eric, for all you do to make our community a better place to live!

My Cousin Vinny's, Gourmet Brick Oven provided Dr. Eric with $25 in Vinny's Bucks as a "Thank You" gift to our Pathfinder. My Cousin Vinny's is located at 2615 George Busbee Parkway in Kennesaw.
