Aerobic Classes

The Recreation Center offers aerobic classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Classes also are offered on Mondays at 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per month. Childcare is available for $15 per month. Instructors demonstrate all levels of intensity and modification to benefit participants. A wide variety of exercises will be demonstrated. Participants are encouraged to bring a towel to class to use with floor mats.

Silver Roamers

If you enjoy meeting people, visiting sites and having a great time, the Silver Roamers Club is for you. They meet monthly to discuss upcoming events. The next meeting will be on Monday, May 2 at the Recreation Center at 11 a.m., followed by a Bingo game.

On Wednesday May 4, the Roamers will go to Dahlonega and tour the Consolidated Gold Mine, 250 feet below ground as it appeared at the turn of the century. Try your hand at panning gold and then have lunch at the Smith House. The cost is $31 for members and $36 for nonmembers. This includes transportation, lunch and tour. The bus will leave the Recreation Center at 10:15 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 10:45 a.m.

On Tuesday, May 10 the Roamers will go to Madison, Georgia for the Spring Tour of Homes and the Blue Willow Inn. They will tour the beautiful antebellum and Victorian homes of the Civil War era. These national treasures are open to the public only once a year. The cost is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers and includes transportation, lunch and the tour. The bus will leave the Center at 9 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 9:15 a.m.

On Wednesday, May 18 the Roamers will enjoy a guided tour of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. After the tour they will stop for lunch in Atlanta. The cost is $33 for members and $38 for nonmembers and includes transportation, lunch and the tour. The bus will leave the Center at 10:30 a.m. and the Canton Senior Center at 10 a.m.

Smart Start Basketball

This program offers a developmentally appropriate introduction to basketball for children ages three to six. Koosh equipment is

used, which has been tested and proven to be very effective in teaching young children. Each week, exercises become more difficult as the children improve. The cost is $65. Each child receives a T-shirt, equipment and a manual. The sessions will be held on Thursdays, May 26 through June 30 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Ben Brown at (770) 924-7768.

Starlight Movie

On Saturday, May 14, the CRPA will host its first outdoor movie in a series planned for the summer. The movie will be family-friendly and will start at dusk. The movie is shown on a four-story tall movie screen at Hobgood Park. There also will be vendors, music and games. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. No alcohol please. This event is free.

Tang Soo Do

This form of martial arts is for everyone: children, teens and adults. It builds self-esteem and confidence and teaches self-defense. The first class is free, and classes are on going. The class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. or 7:45 - 8:45 p.m., and is for ages six and older. The cost is $45 for two or three days per week, monthly or $30 for one day per week, monthly. For additional information, please call Paula or Don Remick at (770) 517-2958.

Yoga

The Recreation Center offers a great way to relax, relieve stress, gain flexibility and become more focused in your everyday life with Yoga. The class is held on Saturday mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per class.
